Clay Taylor was born and raised in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He played football in high school and was a standout player. After high school, he attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship. He played for the Tigers from 2006-2010. After college, he was signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent.
High School Career
Clay Taylor played high school football at Pahokee High School in Pahokee, Florida. As a senior, he had 144 tackles and six sacks. He was named to the All-Conference and All-State teams. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
College Career
Clay played college football at the University of Houston from 1999-2002. He was a 3 year starter and was named to Conference USA’s All Freshman Team in 1999. He was also named to the Conference USA All Conference 2nd Team in 2001 and 2002. Clay played in 42 games, starting 39 of them, during his college career. He finished his career with 318 tackles (210 solo), 9 interceptions, 4 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

In 2012, he started 15 games for the Steelers and had four sacks. He missed one game due to a concussion. In 2013, he again started 15 games and had four sacks. In 2014, he started 14 games and had two sacks. He missed two games due to a hamstring injury. In 2015, he started 16 games and had four sacks. He was released by the Steelers after the 2016 season.
