His early life
Lebron James was born on December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio. His mother, Gloria James, was only 16 years old when she had him. Despite the challenges they faced, Gloria instilled in LeBron a love of sports and a determination to succeed.
While attending St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron, LeBron quickly emerged as one of the top high school basketball players in the country. He was named Ohio’s “Mr. Basketball” three times and was a McDonald’s All-American as a senior. In 2002, LeBron led St. Vincent-St. Mary to a Division III state championship; he was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). That same year, he was also named Gatorade National Player of the Year (an award given to the best high school player in America), becoming just the second sophomore ever to receive the honor.
