Does WWE Own AEW?
There has been much speculation as to whether WWE owns AEW. However, the answer is no. WWE does not own AEW.
Why Does It Matter If WWE Owns AEW?
There are a few reasons why it would matter if WWE owns AEW. First, if WWE did own AEW, it would likely mean that AEW would have significantly less creative freedom than it does now. This could lead to AEW feeling more like an extension of WWE, rather than its own separate entity. Additionally, if WWE owned AEW, it could make it more difficult for other wrestling promotions to compete, as WWE would essentially have a monopoly on the wrestling landscape. Finally, some fans may feel less invested in AEW if they knew that WWE was behind it, as they may view AEW as simply being a “product” of WWE.
What Would Happen If WWE Owned AEW?
While the landscape of professional wrestling has changed a lot over the years, one thing has remained constant: WWE and AEW have always been at odds with each other.
AEW was created in 2019 by Tony Khan, the son of Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan. WWE is the much larger and more well-known company, with a long history dating back to the early 20th century.
WWE has always been the top dog in professional wrestling, but AEW has quickly gained ground on them in recent years. AEW’s roster is full of top talent, including Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, and more. They also have a successful weekly TV show on TNT called Dynamite.
So what would happen if WWE were to purchase AEW?
It’s unlikely that WWE would be able to purchase AEW outright, as Shad Khan is not interested in selling his company. However, WWE could try to purchase a majority stake in AEW. If they were successful in doing so, it’s possible that they would merge the two companies and create one unified professional wrestling promotion.
However, it’s also possible that WWE would simply absorb AEW into their existing company and disband it as a separate entity. In this scenario, many of the top stars from AEW would likely be signed to WWE contracts and brought over to the main roster. There is no guarantee that this would happen though, as WWE has been known to let top stars from other companies go in the past (i.e. CM Punk and Brock Lesnar).
Whatever the case may be, it’s certainly an interesting idea to think about what could happen if WWE owned AEW.
