Forwards
The Harvard women’s Hockey Team is set to have an exciting season. The roster is filled with talented players, many of whom have been internationally recognized for their skills. Here is a look at the forwards who will be taking the ice for the Crimson this year.
Defensemen
The Harvard women’s Hockey team is set to have another great season. The team is stacked with a lot of young talent, and the Coaching Staff is very excited about the potential of this year’s squad.
One area of the team that is particularly strong is the defense. The blueline consists of a mix of experienced upperclassmen and talented underclassmen. Here is a look at the defensemen who will be suiting up for Harvard this season:
– Sarah Edney: A senior from Toronto, Edney is a two-time Olympian and has been one of the top defenseman in college hockey for the past few years. She will be looked to as a leader on and off the ice for this young Harvard team.
– Michelle Picard: A junior from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, Picard was named an All-American last season after tallying 11 goals and 19 assists from the blueline. She is an excellent skater and has a keen eye for making plays in the offensive zone
– Marissa Gedman: A sophomore from Newton, Massachusetts, Gedman had a great freshman season, anchoring Harvard’s second defense pairing. She is a physical presence on the ice and isn’t afraid to drop the gloves if necessary.

Goaltenders
The Harvard women’s hockey team has announced its roster for the upcoming season The team will have two goaltenders, both of whom are returnees from last year.
Katey Stone will enter her 21st season as the Head Coach of the Crimson. She will be assisted by Maura Crowell, who is in her second season with the team.
The goaltenders for the 2017-2018 season are senior Sydney Johnson-Scharpf and sophomore Lindsay Reed.
Johnson-Scharpf appeared in nine games last season, posting a .935 save percentage and a 1.67 goals against average. She was named Ivy League Player of the Week twice during the 2016-2017 campaign.
Reed played in eight games as a freshman, posting a .943 save percentage and a 1.62 goals against average. She was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week three times during the 2016-2017 season.
Special Teams

Goalkeepers
Junior Makayla Parkhurst (3 GP, 3-0-0, 0.67 GAA, .964 SV%) will return to anchor the Crimson netminding corps. Parkhurst posted a 10-2-2 record last season with a 1.71 GAA and .939 save percentage as a sophomore, starting 14 of Harvard’s 17 contests.
The Coaching Staff
Head coach Katie Crowley will be joined by associate head coach Maura Crowell and assistant coaches Brett Strot and Gillian McKinnon.
The Schedule
The full schedule for the upcoming season has not yet been released, but the team will play 34 regular season games, including 16 at home at the Bright Center.

Forwards
Olivia Magee
A young player with plenty of potential, Olivia Magee is expected to make an immediate impact on the Harvard women’s Hockey Team A native of Canada, Magee comes to Harvard after a successful career with the Markham Stouffville Stars of the Ontario Women’s Hockey League In her final season with the Stars, Magee tallied an impressive 26 goals and 30 assists in just 30 games. She also brings international experience, having represented Canada at the Under-18 level.
Sarah Edney
A dynamic two-way defenseman, Sarah Edney will be a key player for the Crimson this season. Edney comes to Harvard after a successful career with the Nobles and Greenough School in Massachusetts. In her senior year, she captained her team to the New England prep school Athletic Council Championship. Edney also has experience at the international level, having been a member of Team Canada’s Under-18 squad.
Bella Sutton
Bella Sutton comes to Harvard from Choate Rosemary Hall, where she was a standout forward for the past two seasons. In her junior year, Sutton led Choate in scoring with 21 goals and 15 assists in just 25 games. She followed that up with another strong season as a senior, tallying 19 goals and 18 assists in 27 games.
The Veterans
The Harvard women’s Hockey Team will look to a core group of experienced players to provide leadership and production on the ice this season. The squad features eight seniors, four of whom are co-captains, and will look to them to help the team return to the National Championship game for the first time since 2015.
Forwards
Sophia shriver (13 goals, 9 assists in 2017-18), Margaret Purce (9 goals, 11 assists), and Kat Elliott (5 goals, 12 assists) will be counted on to provide scoring and veteran leadership up front for the Crimson. All three forwards are returning for their senior seasons after successful junior campaigns and will be looking to build on their previous success.
Defenders
On the blue line Harvard will look to seniors Sarah Edney (2 goals, 11 assists), Michelle Picard (1 goal, 11 assists), and Kali Flanagan (1 goal, 7 assists) to provide stability and a strong defensive presence. All three players are returning starters and will be counted on to help anchor a young defensive corps.
Goaltenders
In net, senior Becky Dutton will look to build on her impressive junior season in which she posted a .935 save percentage and 1.15 goals against average. Dutton will be backed up by sophomore Molly Tissenbaum, who saw action in four games last season.
The Fans
The fans of Harvard Women’s Hockey are some of the most dedicated and passionate in the sport. They follow their team religiously, both in person and online, and are always looking for ways to support them.
This season, the fans will be excited to see a few new faces on the team, as well as some old favorites. One of the new faces is freshman defenseman Taylar Cianfarano, who hails from Massena, New York. Cianfarano is a highly touted prospect who has already made an impact on the team. She had a great preseason and is expected to be a key player on the blueline this season.
Another new face is forward Reagan Hemingway, who comes to Harvard from Lakeshore, Ontario. Hemingway is a skilled forward who has a nose for the net. She scored 21 goals and had 27 assists last season for Lakeshore High School and she is expected to bring that same offensive production to Harvard this season.
The fans will also be excited to see junior defender Sarah Edney return to the lineup this season. Edney missed all of last season with an injury but she is healthy now and ready to make an impact on the team. She is a very intelligent player who sees the game well and makes great decisions with the puck.
