Early life and career
Scott Hall was born on October 20, 1958 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, the son of Barbara and George Hall. He has two brothers, Brian and Kevin. Hall grew up a fan of Hulk Hogan and memorized all of Hogan’s interview promos. He attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Owen, Wisconsin. When he was ten years old, his parents divorced and he went to live with his mother and older brother. His father died when Scott was eleven years old.
He began watching professional wrestling at age 12 and soon began imitating wrestlers he saw on television. Jim Brunzell, Bruno Sammartino, Bob Orton Jr., David Schultz and The Iron Sheik were some of the wrestlers he admired. Hall’s friends would often interact with him as if they were wrestling fans trying to get autographs from him while imitating WWF interviewers Morton Downey Jr., Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon.
Personal life
Scott Hall was married three times and had five children. In 1971, he married Cheryl Pitner; the couple had two sons, Cody and Cullan. They divorced in 1988. In 1989, he married Dana Lee Burgio; the couple had one son, Jake, and one daughter, Rebecca. They divorced in 2001. In 2003, he married Janiceanting-Bailey; the couple had one son, Michael, and one daughter, Olivia.
Hall struggled with substance abuse for much of his life, particularly alcohol. In an interview with Sports Illustrated in 2002, he stated that he had been sober since 1986. However, in May 2010, it was revealed that Hall had relapsed and was drinking again.
On October 14, 2010, Hall was rushed to a hospital after collapsing at an induction ceremony for the WWE Hall of Fame. He was reported to be in a medically induced coma but later recovered consciousness.
Hall entered rehab on April 10, 2011 but was asked to leave three days later for failing to follow the facility’s rules. He then checked into another facility on April 17 but left that facility against doctors’ orders on May 2.
