The regular season
In Major League Baseball, the regular season lasts 182 games, which is played over roughly six months from late March/early April to late September/early October. Each team plays 162 of those games. The regular season is followed by the Postseason, which consists of the nine-team American League and National League Division Series, and the five-team AL and NL Wild Card Game. The two winners of those Wild Card Games advance to the best-of-seven ALCS and NLCS, respectively. Lastly, the two winners face each other in the best-of-seven World Series.
Spring training
Spring training is a baseball exhibition season that precedes the start of the regular season. Spring training allows new players to audition for roster and position spots, and gives established players practice time prior to competitive play.
The postseason
The postseason is when the best teams in each league compete for the chance to play in the World Series. The playoffs are a best-of-seven series, and the team that wins four games advances to the next round. The playoffs start in October and end in November.
