Bobby Lashley’s WWE Career

Bobby Lashley is an American professional wrestler and actor who is currently signed to WWE. He is also the current WWE United States Champion in his second reign. Lashley is a former United States Army sergeant and NCAA Division I Heavyweight wrestling champion.

His First WWE Run

Bobby Lashley’s first WWE run began in 2005, when he was drafted to the SmackDown brand as part of the WWE Draft Lottery. He quickly made an impact on the blue brand, winning the United States Championship from JBL in his very first match on SmackDown. He held the title for six months before losing it to Finn Bálor in a Fatal 4-Way match also involving Samoa Joe and Karl Anderson.

Lashley would go on to have a highly successful run in WWE, becoming a multiple-time WWE Champion and even holding the record for the longest reign as WWE Champion in modern history. He is also a former Intercontinental Champion, ECW World Champion and United States Champion.

His Second WWE Run

Bobby Lashley made his highly-anticipated return to WWE in late 2016, and it didn’t take long for “The Dominator” to make an impact. On the January 3, 2017 episode of RAW, Lashley defeated United States Champion Roman Reigns in a non-title match. The very next week on RAW, Lashley once again defeated Reigns, this time to win the United States Championship.

Lashley would go on to hold the United States Championship for 70 days, before losing it to The Miz at Summerslam 2017. Despite not being able to recapture the United States Championship, Bobby Lashley did have a very successful 2017. He would go on to compete in the main event of Survivor Series 2017, as part of Team RAW, where he would be the sole survivor of the match.

Lashley’s WWE Championship Wins

Bobby Lashley is a current WWE Champion, having won the title on February 21, 2021. He is also a former United States Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and two-time ECW World Champion. Lashley is the only person to have held all three titles at the same time. He has held the WWE Championship for a total of 50 days.

His First WWE Championship Win

Bobby Lashley won his first WWE Championship on April 11, 2007, defeating Batista to become champion. He held the title for 77 days before losing it to The Great Khali on July 15, 2007.

His Second WWE Championship Win

On the November 16, 2020 episode of RAW, Lashley defeated The Miz to win the WWE Championship for the second time in his career.

Lashley’s Recent WWE Title Reign

Bobby Lashley became WWE Champion on February 21, 2021, when he defeated The Miz in a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match at Elimination Chamber. This marked Lashley’s first WWE Championship reign. Lashley is the first African American to hold the WWE Championship in nearly 10 years, and his title reign is currently the longest of any black WWE Champion in history.

Lashley enjoyed success in amateur wrestling throughout high school and college. In 2003 he joined the Army National Guard and continued his wrestling career; within a year he was close to joining the U.S. Army’s World Class Athlete Program when an opportunity to train with the Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Best Professional Wrestler of 2002 His three reigns as ECW World Champion are recognized by WWE as the longest in history at 282 days each.

Bobby Lashley is currently in his fourth WWE Championship reign, having defeated Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania Backlash on May 16, 2021. Bobby Lashley made his first WWE Title defense against Jeff Hardy at the Royal Rumble. Lashley won the match after hitting Hardy with a spear.

Bobby Lashley successfully defended his WWE Title against Drew McIntyre at Extreme Rules, giving him his second title defense. McIntyre put up a good fight, but Lashley ultimately won with the help of some weaponry. Lashley now looks to continue his streak and prove that he is the true champion.

Bobby Lashley will defend his WWE Title against Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 37. This will be Lashley’s second title defense since winning the title at WrestleMania 36. Lashley has held the WWE Title for a total of 54 days (as of 3/28/21).
