The game’s soundtrack features 29 licensed songs.

The game became the best-selling NBA video game ever with over five million copies sold worldwide by November 2012. A port for the Wii U version was released on November 18, 2012 in North America. The MyTeam mode also makes a return in NBA 2K13. It introduces a new concept called “My Career”, in which the player creates their own custom player and plays through their career.

MyTeam, a mode in which players create teams of current and former NBA players to compete in tournaments, was expanded in NBA 2K14 to include card-collecting and online matchmaking with dedicated servers. Path to Greatness mode returns from previous games in the series. As with other modes, players’ avatars can be used. Legend editions of the game feature classic NBA players such as Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Players can also create their own players, teams and arenas nationwide rather than just restricting themselves to their local areas like in previous games.
