Rey Mysterio made his return to WWE television on the January 27, 2020 episode of Monday Night Raw, coming out to help his longtime friend and one-time tag team partner Dominick Cena during a backstage brawl with Brock Lesnar. This appearance caused many fans to speculate as to whether or not Rey Mysterio was signed to a full-time contract with WWE, or if he was simply appearing on a one-off basis.

Rey Mysterio’s contract status with WWE has been a topic of much speculation over the past few years. Rey Mysterio’s last known contract with WWE expired in September of 2019, and since then, he has only made sporadic appearances for the company. However, it was widely believed that Rey Mysterio had signed a new short-term deal with WWE in order to appear at the 2019 Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia. Other than that, there has been no confirmation as to whether or not Rey Mysterio is currently under contract with WWE.

However, it seems likely that Rey Mysterio is currently not under contract with WWE. If Rey Mysterio had been signed to a new contract, it would stand to reason that WWE would want to announce it in some capacity. Furthermore, if Rey Mysterio was only appearing on Raw in order to promote the upcoming Royal Rumble pay-per-view, it seems unlikely that he would have come out during a backstage brawl rather than during one of the advertised segments on Raw.

As of right now, it is unknown what Rey Mysterio’s future holds in WWE. It is possible that he has signed a new short-term deal in order to appear at certain events, but it is also possible that he is only appearing on a one-off basis. Time will tell what Rey Mysterio’s status with WWE is, but for right now, it seems like he is not under contract with the company.
