On October 6, 2013, he caught his first NFL touchdown reception from quarterback Colin Kaepernick during a 34–28 loss against the Arizona Cardinals. Ertz began the 2014 season as the 49ers’ starting tight end after veteran tight end Vernon Davis was ruled out for Week 1 due to a back injury. In Week 8, Ertz caught eight passes for 77 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a 22–17 away win over the St. Louis Rams helping the 49ers win their fourth consecutive game. The following week, he recorded career-highs of nine receptions and 81 receiving yards as the 49ers defeated the New Orleans Saints 27–24 in overtime. On November 16, 2014, Ertz grabbed seven catches for 68 yards and two touchdowns during a 16-10 away victory against the New York Giants. He led all tight ends with six touchdown receptions in 2014 and helped the 49ers reach Super Bowl XLIX after defeating the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game 28-22 (OT). In Super Bowl XLIX, he had four catches for 27 yards but was unable to prevent his team from losing 28-24 to the New England Patriots after they failed to score on their final drive of regulation time.[17] He finished his second season with 58 receptions for 702 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games and 11 starts.
Re-signed with the Eagles in 2019
Zach Ertz signed a five-year, $42.5 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019. The deal includes $20 million guaranteed, and keeps Ertz under contract through the 2021 season. He is set to earn a base salary of $7.5 million for the 2019 season.
