How Many Black NFL Quarterbacks Are There?

We take a look at how many black quarterbacks are currently playing in the NFL.

There are currently 32 NFL teams.

As of the 2019 season, there are 32 NFL teams, and of those, only two have black quarterbacks as their starters. That’s 6.25% Black starting quarterbacks in the NFL. The last time the percentage of black starting quarterbacks was that low was in 2003, when Donovan McNabb was the only black quarterback starting in the league.

Each team has a starting quarterback.

In the National Football League (NFL), the quarterback is the leader of the offense. The quarterback touches the ball on almost every offensive play, and his decisions and ability to execute offensive plays can determine the outcome of a game.

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of black quarterbacks in the NFL. In 2014, there were seven black starting quarterbacks in the NFL, which was the most in league history. As of 2019, there are eight black starters in the NFL. This represents an increase from just two or three black quarterbacks a decade ago.

The rise in black quarterbacks can be attributed to a number of factors, including an increased focus on developing young talent and a greater acceptance of black quarterbacks by NFL teams and fans. Whatever the reasons, it is clear that black quarterbacks are becoming more common in the NFL.

There are backup quarterbacks on each team.

In the National Football League (NFL), a black quarterback is a rare sight. In the history of the NFL, there have been only 19 black quarterbacks who have started in a regular season game. The number of African American starting quarterbacks has been on the decline since 2001, when there were eight. In 2018, there were only four black starting quarterbacks in the NFL out of 32 total starting quarterback positions.

The trend seems to be that fewer and fewer black quarterbacks are getting drafted into the NFL each year. In 2019, only two were drafted in the first round and none were drafted in the second or third round. This is in contrast to 1998 when six black quarterbacks were drafted in the first round.

The low numbers of African American quarterbacks in the NFL can be partly attributed to the lack of coaching and scouting at lower levels of football. Many high school and college teams do not have African American coaches or scouts which means that there are fewer role models for young black athletes to look up to. Another reason for the low numbers may be thatAfrican American athletes are often steered away from playing quarterback at an early age and encouraged to play other positions such as running back or wide receiver.

Regardless of the reasons, it is clear that black quarterbacks are underrepresented in the NFL.
