Division I is the highest level of collegiate athletics, reserved for the strongest and most competitive athletes. A school must apply and be accepted to Division I. There are currently around 300 Division I schools.

Division II schools are smaller institutions that offer fewer scholarships than Division I schools. There are currently around 170 Division II schools.
Like Division I athletes, Division II athletes must be enrolled as full-time students and meet academic eligibility standards to compete. They also must maintain amateurism to be eligible to play.
