How Many Games Do NBA Teams Play?
We all know that the NBA is a grueling 82-game regular season, but how do those games break down for each team? We break it all down here.
82 Regular Season Games
In an 82-game season, each of the 30 teams plays every other team twice — once at home and once on the road. From there, they are seeded for the playoffs, which follow a best-of-seven format. The league typically begins play late October and the championship is decided in early June.
41 Home Games
In a typical NBA season, each team plays 41 home games and 41 away games. So, a total of 82 regular season games are played by each team. In addition to the 82 regular season games, teams also compete in the playoffs.
41 Away Games
In an NBA season, each team plays 41 away games.
4 Pre-Season Games
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is an American professional basketball league. It is made up of 30 teams, 29 from the United States and 1 from Canada. The NBA play 82 games in a regular season. This is broken down into 41 home games and 41 away games. Each team plays every other team in their conference 4 times and each team in the other conference 3 times.
0-8 Post-Season Games
The number of games an NBA team plays in the post-season depends on how far they advance.
If a team makes it to the Finals, they will have played a total of 21 games. This includes the seven games in the first round, the five games in the second round, the seven games in the Conference Finals, and finally the seven-game NBA Finals series.
However, if a team is eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, they will have played eight games total. This includes the one game played in each best-of-seven series in the first round.
