How Many Games Will There Be in Round 1 of the NBA Playoffs?
The NBA playoffs are upon us and the first round is always the most exciting. How many games will there be in the first round this year?
Eastern Conference
In the Eastern Conference, the Boston Celtics are the favorites to win it all. They are the number one seed and have been to the Finals three times in the past five years. The Celtics are followed by the Toronto Raptors, who are the number two seed. The Raptors are a very good team, but they have never been to the Finals. The Philadelphia 76ers are the third seed. They are a young team with a lot of talent, but they have not been to the Finals in over 20 years. The final team in the East is the Milwaukee Bucks, who are the fourth seed. The Bucks are a very good team, but they have not been to the Finals since 1974.
Boston Celtics vs. Philadelphia 76ers
The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers will face each other in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Sixers finished the regular season with the best record in the Eastern Conference, while the Celtics had the fourth-best record.
The two teams met four times during the regular season, with each team winning twice. The Sixers won both games played in Philadelphia, while the Celtics won both games played in Boston.
The Celtics and 76ers have a long history, dating back to when they were both founding members of the NBA. The two teams have met a total of 21 times in the playoffs, with the Celtics holding a 13-8 lead.
The most recent meeting between these two teams in the playoffs was in 2012, when the Celtics beat the Sixers 4-3 in seven games.
Toronto Raptors vs. Washington Wizards
The Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards will face each other in the first round of the NBA playoffs. The Raptors are the higher seed and will have home-court advantage.
The Raptors are one of the best teams in the league and are favorite to win this series. The Wizards are a good team, but they have been battling injuries all season long.
The Raptors will need to be at their best to win this series, but they should be able to get past the Wizards in five games.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Indiana Pacers
The first round of the NBA playoffs is a best-of-seven series. The Cleveland Cavaliers have home-court advantage against the Indiana Pacers because they had a better regular season record. The Cavaliers won 3 out of 4 games against the Pacers during the regular season.
The schedule for the series is as follows:
Game 1: Sunday, April 15 at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC
Game 2: Wednesday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. ET on TNT
Game 3: Friday, April 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2
Game 4: Sunday, April 22 at 1:00 p.m. ET on ABC
Game 5 (if necessary): Wednesday, April 25 at TBD on TNT
Game 6 (if necessary): Friday, April 27 at TBD on ESPN2
` ` ` ` Game 7 (if necessary): Sunday, April 29 at TBD on ABC
Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat
The Milwaukee Bucks have the best record in the NBA and will have home-court advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs. They will face the Miami Heat in the first round. The Heat are the 5th seed in the East and are coming off a 103-94 win over the Boston Celtics.
The Bucks have won all 3 games they’ve played against the Heat this season, but all 3 were close games. The Bucks won by an average of 4 points per game.
The schedule for this series has not been released yet, but we do know that Game 1 will be in Milwaukee on Monday, April 15th.
Western Conference
There are a lot of great teams in the Western Conference this year, so it is hard to say how many games there will be in the first round of the NBA Playoffs. The Warriors are the clear favorite to win the conference, but the Rockets and Thunder are both strong teams that could give them a run for their money. The Spurs and Pelicans are also dark horse teams that could surprise some people.
Houston Rockets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves
In the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Houston Rockets will face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Rockets are the third seed in the Western Conference, while the Timberwolves are the sixth seed. The Rockets have home-court advantage in this series.
The Rockets finished the regular season with a record of 65-17, while the Timberwolves were 47-35. The Rockets won all four matchups between these two teams during the regular season. In their most recent meeting, on March 28th, the Rockets won 112-102.
The Rockets are led by MVP candidate James Harden, who averaged 30.4 points per game during the regular season. The Timberwolves are led by Karl-Anthony Towns, who averaged 21.3 points and 12 rebounds per game.
This should be a very competitive series, but ultimately, we believe that the Rockets will prevail and advance to the second round of the playoffs.
Golden State Warriors vs. San Antonio Spurs
The Warriors will have home-court advantage as the better seed in this series. They finished the season with a record of 58-24, while the Spurs were right behind them at 55-27. Both teams are coming into the playoffs on hot streaks, as the Warriors have won 11 of their last 12 games, while the Spurs have won 9 in a row.
The Warriors are led by their All-Star backcourt of Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Curry is averaging 26.4 points and 6.1 assists per game, while Thompson is adding 22 points per game. The Warriors also have a solid frontcourt, led by Draymond Green and David West. Green is a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything, averaging 10.2 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game. West is a veteran big man who brings leadership and toughness to the team, averaging 6 points and 4 rebounds per game.
The Spurs are led by their All-Star forward Kawhi Leonard. Leonard is averaging 25 points and 5 rebounds per game this season. The Spurs also have a very deep team, with nine players averaging double figures in scoring this season. Other key players for the Spurs include LaMarcus Aldridge, Rudy Gay, Pau Gasol, and Patty Mills.
Portland Trail Blazers vs. New Orleans Pelicans
The first round of the NBA playoffs is a best-of-seven series. The Portland Trail Blazers have a 3-0 lead over the New Orleans Pelicans. If the Trail Blazers win one more game, they will advance to the second round.
Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Utah Jazz
In the first round of the NBA playoffs, the Oklahoma City Thunder will face off against the Utah Jazz. The Thunder are the favorites to win this series, but the Jazz have proven they can compete with the best in the league.
The Thunder are led by MVP candidate Russell Westbrook, who is averaging a triple-double for the season. Westbrook will have his hands full with Jazz guard Ricky Rubio, who is one of the best defenders in the league. The key to this series will be how well the Thunder’s supporting cast plays. Forward Paul George has been inconsistent all season, and center Steven Adams has struggled with foul trouble. If George and Adams can step up their game, the Thunder should be able to win this series fairly easily.
The Jazz are led by All-Star center Rudy Gobert, who is one of the best defenders in the league. Gobert will need to anchor a strong defensive effort if the Jazz want to have any chance of winning this series. On offense, the Jazz will need big games from playmakers Donovan Mitchell and Rubio. If Mitchell and Rubio can control the tempo of the game and get easy baskets for their teammates, the Jazz could pull off an upset.
The Thunder and Jazz met four times during the regular season, with each team winning two games. This series is likely to be just as close as those regular season meetings, but ultimately, we believe that Westbrook and company will prevail.
