How Many More Games Till the NBA Playoffs?
Contents
The NBA season is winding down and the playoffs are right around the corner. So how many more games do we have to wait until the playoffs?
The current NBA standings
As the race for the NBA playoffs intensifies, let’s take a look at the current standings. The Golden State Warriors are in the lead with a record of 48-4. The San Antonio Spurs are not far behind with a record of 43-8. The Cleveland Cavaliers are in third place with a record of 39-12. The fourth and final spot is currently being fought over by the Los Angeles Clippers, the Boston Celtics, and the Toronto Raptors.
The teams in the running for the playoffs
The current NBA standings are as follows: the Los Angeles Lakers are in first place with a record of 53-13, the Milwaukee Bucks are in second place with a record of 52-14, the Toronto Raptors are in third place with a record of 50-16, the Boston Celtics are in fourth place with a record of 48-18, the Miami Heat are in fifth place with a record of 44-22, the Denver Nuggets are in sixth place with a record of 43-23, the Houston Rockets are in seventh place with a record of 42-24, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are in eighth place with a record of 40-26.
The remaining games for each team
The Boston Celtics are currently in 1st place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 48-22. They have 3 games left to play. The Toronto Raptors are in 2nd place with a record of 47-22 and also have 3 games left to play. The Philadelphia 76ers are in 3rd place with a record of 42-27 and have 6 games left to play.
The teams’ records
As of now, the Indiana Pacers have the best record in the NBA. They are currently 44-13, clinching the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Miami Heat sit in 2nd place with a record of 41-14. The San Antonio Spurs are in 3rd place with a 40-14 record, and the Oklahoma City Thunder are just behind them with a 39-15 record. All four of these teams have virtually locked up their playoff spots, as they all sit at least 8 games ahead of the 5th place team.
In the Western Conference, things are a bit more interesting. The Golden State Warriors currently hold onto the 8th and final playoff spot with a 32-21 record. They are only 1 game ahead of the 9th place Phoenix Suns, who are 31-22. The 2 teams above them, the Houston Rockets (33-21) and Dallas Mavericks (32-22), only have 1 game more than these 2 teams as well. So essentially, any combination of 2 wins or losses could completely change the playoff picture in the Western Conference.
The Portland Trail Blazers (29-24) have crawled their way back into playoff contention as well, as they only sit 4 games back of Golden State for that final spot. However, they would likely need to go on a hot streak and win at least 10 of their remaining 23 games to have any shot at make it to the playoffs.

The implications for the playoffs
The matchups that could happen
looking at the current standings, there are a few potential playoff matchups that could happen. The most likely matchup is the Golden State Warriors vs. the Houston Rockets, which would be a repeat of last year’s Western Conference Finals. Another possibility is the Milwaukee Bucks vs. the Toronto Raptors, which would be a battle of the top two teams in the East.
There are also a few potential first-round matchups that could be interesting. One is the Portland Trail Blazers vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder, which would feature two of the best players in the league in Damian Lillard and Russell Westbrook. Another is the Los Angeles Clippers vs. the San Antonio Spurs, which would be a battle of two teams that are fighting for playoff positioning in the West.
