NBA Championships

The Miami Heat is a professional basketball team based in Miami, Florida. They are members of the Eastern Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team won their first NBA championship in 2006 and their second in 2012. They have appeared in the NBA Finals five times, winning the championship in 2006, 2012, and 2013.

2006 NBA Finals

In 2006, the Miami Heat won their maiden NBA championship. The Finals were played between the Heat and the Dallas Mavericks, with the Heat coming out on top in six games. Dwyane Wade was named the Finals MVP.

2007 NBA Finals

The 2007 NBA Finals was the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s championship series for the 2006-2007 season. The best-of-seven playoff was contested between the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs and the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat. This was San Antonio’s fourth trip to the NBA Finals in franchise history; they previously won championships in 1999, 2003, and 2005. The Heat were making their first ever appearance in an NBA Finals.

The series began on June 8, 2007, and ended on June 20, 2007. Miami Heat forward LeBron James was named MVP of the series, becoming the youngest player ever to win this award at age 23. All seven games of the series were close; all were decided by a single digit margin of victory and three games went into overtime; Game 3 is notable for being the only Finals game (and only playoff game since 1994) where no player scored 20 points or more.

The Spurs won their fourth championship in nine seasons with a 4-3 victory over the Heat, winning their first title since 2005. It was also the first time since 1991 that two teams had met at least three times in a span of four postseasons (Dallas Mavericks vs. Portland Trail Blazers). Since then, only two other such postseasons have taken place: 2010 when the Los Angeles Lakers defeated Boston Celtics en route to their 16th championship while also exacting revenge against Orlando Magic from 2009 Finals and 2012 when Miami avenged their 2011 loss to Dallas while also defeating Oklahoma City Thunder en route to their 2nd consecutive title and 3rd overall.

2008 NBA Finals

The 2008 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2007–08 season, and the conclusion of the season’s playoffs. The best-of-seven playoff was contested between the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics, and the Western Conference champion Los Angeles Lakers. These two teams met in the Finals for the first time since 1984, and observed their 11th Finals appearance since 1959. The Celtics ultimately defeated the Lakers four games to two in a series viewed by an average of 9.3 million people; it was the most watched NBA championship series since 1998. Ray Allen led Boston with 26 points per game (PPG), and was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of Games 1 and 2. Kobe Bryant led Los Angeles with 28 PPG. The series was played under a one-year temporary contract that allowed newly elected NBA commissioner David Stern to declare an official winner.[5][6]

The Celts’ victory marked their record-setting seventeenth championship overall (surpassing their rivals, the Lakers, who had won sixteen times). It also gave them their sixth title in nine years (dating back to 1999), marking them as only the second team in NBA history to win six championships in such a short span of time—the first being Michael Jordan’s six-champion Chicago Bulls. The victory fulfilled predicted ” destinies ” for both franchises: not only were incoming Celtics head coach Doc Rivers and general manager Danny Ainge actively recruited by then-Celtics president Red Auerbach during his dying days in 2002[7]—with Ainge famously replying that he would return to Boston “when they hung banner 18″[8]—but also new Lakers coach Phil Jackson himself had publicly stated that he wouldn’t return to coach LA until they acquired a legitimate center.[9]

Boston entered 2008’s playoffs as defending champions; they defeated Houston in seven games in last year’s semifinals ,and then disposed of Cleveland Cavaliers — LeBron James ‘s former team —in another seven-game slugfest during this year’s Eastern Conference finals . Lakers entered these playoffs by winning 57 games during the regular season , posting the best record for any Western Conference team . As defending Western Conference champions ,they beat New Orleans Hornets 4–1 .

2006 NBA Finals

The 2006 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2005–06 season, and the culmination of the season’s playoffs. The Western Conference champion Dallas Mavericks played the Eastern Conference champion Miami Heat, with the Heat winning the series 4–2. It was their fourth NBA championship, and their first as a franchise.

Dwyane Wade of Miami was named as the Most Valuable Player of the series.[1] This was Dallas’ first appearance in an NBA Finals series since 1988, when they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers; their only previous Finals appearance was in 2006 when they defeated the Heat. The two teams met again in 2011’s NBA Finals which Miami won in six games. Entering 2006, Dallas had never won a playoff-series game on the road;[2] however, they won Games 3 and 5 at American Airlines Center, putting them ahead 2–1 in the series for a time.

The Mavericks also became only since 1991’s Portland Trail Blazers to lose a playoff-series after leading it 0–2 (the other instance being 2003’s New Jersey Nets). Had they won Game 3 (on their home court), they would have become both only team other than those Blazers to win such a series and to win a Game 7 on the road (since then matched by 2016’s Cleveland Cavaliers). Also, had they held on to their Game 5 lead until winning time (up 13 points with 6:34 left), they would have become only 8th team ever to come back from being down 0–2 at home to win a best-of-7 NBA playoff-series by winning all three games at home.[3]
