Stephen Curry has been to the NBA Finals six times in his career. He has won three of those Finals. Curry’s first Finals appearance came in 2015, when he and the Golden State Warriors lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in six games.
2015 NBA Finals
In 2015, the Warriors faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals. Curry averaged 26 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game in the series. He shot 44.3% from the field and 37.8% from three-point range. The Warriors won the series in six games, giving Curry his first championship.
2016 NBA Finals
The Golden State Warriors faced the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2016 NBA Finals. This was the second consecutive year that these two teams met in the Finals, with the Warriors having won in 2015. After losing the first two games of the series, the Warriors won four straight games to claim their second championship in three years. Stephen Curry was named Finals MVP for his excellent play throughout the series.
2017 NBA Finals
The 2017 NBA Finals was the championship series of the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s 2016–17 season and conclude the season’s playoffs. The Western Conference champion Golden State Warriors defeated the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers 4–1 in a best-of-seven series. This Finals was the first time in NBA history that two teams had met for a third consecutive year. The Cavaliers sought to repeat as champions after winning the championship in 2016, while the Warriors won the West and were returning to the Finals for the fourth straight year.
The Warriors won the first three games of the series, then the Cavaliers won game four to avoid a sweep. The Warriors became only the ninth team in NBA history to go undefeated in their first 12 playoff games, joining elite company such as Michael Jordan’s 1995–96 Chicago Bulls and Magic Johnson’s 1988–89 Los Angeles Lakers (both teams went 15–0). With their win in game five, the Warriors set a new NBA record with 14 straight wins to start these playoffs, breaking a tie with several teams including their own 2015 team which started 13–0 before losing game four of that year’s Finals. They also joined Magic Johnson’s 1989 Lakers as only one of two teams to win four consecutive road games in one postseason; both accomplished this by winning games five through seven on back-to-back-to-back nights.
Curry averaged 28.6 points (on 56% shooting from three-point range), 6.4 assists, and 5 rebounds per game during these finals making him one of only three players ever (Larry Bird and Magic Johnson being the others) to average at least 28 points, six assists, and five rebounds per game in an NBA Finals series.[2] He also set an all-time record for most three pointers made in an NBA Finals series with 32.[3]

Why Stephen Curry Is One of the Greatest NBA Players of All Time
Stephen Curry has only won 2 NBA Finals in his career, but he is still considered one of the greatest NBA players of all time. Why is this? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons. Curry is a 3-time NBA champion, 2-time NBA MVP, and 6-time NBA All-Star. He is the first player in NBA history to be unanimously voted MVP, and he is the only player in NBA history to make more than 400 three-pointers in a season.
His shooting
Curry’s shooting is his defining skill. It’s the reason he was drafted in the first place, and it’s the reason he became a star. Curry is the best shooter in NBA history. His career three-point percentage of 43.5 percent is the highest mark ever, and he’s made more three-pointers than anyone in league history. He’s a two-time winner of the NBA Three-Point Shootout, and he holds the record for most three-pointers made in a season (402). He possesses a rare combination of volume, accuracy, and efficiency from beyond the arc, and there’s simply no one who can match his shooting prowess.
But Curry is more than just a shootist; he’s also an elite scorer. He ranks 11th all-time in points per game (23.5) and seventh all-time in true shooting percentage (62.9 percent), and his career scoring average would be even higher if not for the injuries that have plagued him throughout his career. When Curry is on the court, good things happen for his team; when he’s off it, they struggle to score. That was never more evident than during the Warriors’ 2016 NBA Finals loss to the Cavaliers, when Curry missed six games with a knee injury and Golden State averaged just 101 points per 100 possessions without him on the floor.
His handles
Stephen Curry is one of the quickest players in the NBA with the ball in his hands. Curry is able to change speeds and directions almost effortlessly, which often leaves defenders flat-footed and grasping at air. This quickness and shiftiness allows him to penetrate into the lane at will, where he can finish with a layup or dish off to an open teammate.
His vision
Stephen Curry is one of the most skilled shooters the game has ever seen. His ability to shoot from anywhere on the court and make it look so effortless is a sight to behold. But what makes Curry truly special is his vision. He sees the game differently from anyone else out there. He reads defenses like a book and knows where all his teammates are at all times. Curry also has unbelievable court awareness. He always knows where the open man is and is always one step ahead of his opponents. This is what makes him one of the greatest NBA players of all time.
