This is down from 31 teams just a few years ago, as the league announced that the 2017-18 season would be the last for the team formerly known as the Charlotte Bobcats. The Bobcats were replaced by a new expansion team, also based in Charlotte, which took on the name of the city’s former NBA franchise, the Hornets.
