NFL Coaches Fired Today
It’s that time of year again. NFL teams are making their final decisions on who will stay and who will go. As of right now, there have been five coaches fired. Here are their names.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns fired Head Coach Hue Jackson after a 2-5-1 start to the 2018 season. Jackson was in his third season with the Browns, and had compiled a record of 3-36-1.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired head coach Dirk Koetter today after back-to-back losing seasons. Koetter had a 19-29 record in his three seasons with the Buccaneers. Tampa Bay went 5-11 in 2018 and missed the playoffs for the 10th straight season.
Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have fired head coach Mike McCarthy after a disappointing 4-7-1 start to the 2018 season. McCarthy had been the head coach in Green Bay since 2006, leading the Packers to a 125-77-2 record and a Super Bowl title in 2010.
This is the second coaching change in the NFL this season, as the New York Jets fired head coach Todd Bowles earlier today. It is unclear at this time who will replace McCarthy as the Packers’ head coach for the remainder of the season.
Reasons For NFL Coaches Getting Fired
There are a number of reasons why an NFL coach might get fired. It could be because of a poor season, off-field issues, or a number of other reasons. Today, we’re going to take a look at some of the possible reasons why an NFL coach might get fired.
Poor Performance
When it comes to NFL coaches, being fired is often just a matter of time. After all, only a handful of coaches manage to keep their jobs for more than a decade. Most are let go after just a few seasons, and some are even fired mid-season.
There are a number of reasons why NFL coaches get fired, but the most common one is simply poor performance. A coach can have all the talent in the world, but if his team isn’t winning, he’s not going to last long. Even winning coaches can be fired if their teams are underperforming relative to expectations.
Another reason NFL coaches get fired is because of off-field issues. These can range from personal problems to legal troubles. In some cases, a coach might be fired because he’s become embroiled in a scandal, such as using performance-enhancing drugs or being caught up in an organized crime investigation.
Finally,NFL coaches can also be fired simply because they’ve become too old or out of touch with the modern game. In these cases, it’s not necessarily that the coach has done anything wrong, but rather that the team feels it’s time for a change.
Losing Season
The most common reason for an NFL coach getting fired is due to a losing season. In fact, this is the reason that about 60% of all NFL coaches who are fired end up getting let go. Most teams will give their coach at least two or three years to turn things around, but if the team continues to lose then the owner will usually make a change. Another factor that can lead to a coach getting fired is if the team has high expectations and the coach fails to meet those expectations. For example, if a team goes from winning their division one year to missing the playoffs the next year, then the owner may decide that it’s time for a change.
Off-Field Issues
Off-field issues are one of the most common reasons for NFL coaches getting fired. This can include anything from DUI charges to poor off-field decision making. In some cases, it might even be something as simple as having an affair. Regardless, any type of off-field issue is going to reflect poorly on a coach and will likely lead to them getting fired.
How NFL Coaches Handle Getting Fired
NFL coaches are some of the most popular figures in the country. They are also some of the most influential people in the country. They have the power to change the game and the way it is played. When an NFL coach is fired, it is a big deal.
Public Reaction
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of NFL coaches who are fired during the season. This often leads to a lot of public speculation and controversy.
Many people believe that NFL coaches should be given more time to turn things around. They argue that firing a coach mid-season is often counterproductive and can disrupt the team’s chemistry. Others believe that NFL coaches are paid a lot of money and need to be held accountable for their results. They argue that firing a coach is the only way to send a message that winning is important.
What do you think? Should NFL coaches be given more time to turn things around or should they be fired if they are not winning?
Private Reaction
In most cases, when an NFL coach is fired, he is not given the opportunity to address the team. He is simply informed of the decision, and then escorted out of the facility. This can be a very emotional and difficult moment for a coach, and it is often done in a very public way.
Many coaches choose to keep their reactions private, and they may not say anything to the media or to other coaches on staff. Some coaches will release a statement through their agent, but many choose to keep their thoughts to themselves. In some cases, a coach may choose to speak with reporters after he has had time to process the situation.
Some coaches do choose to address their teams before they leave, and this can be a very powerful moment. In many cases, these speeches are emotional and they can be very motivating for the players. If a coach is forced to leave in the middle of the season, he may also take this opportunity to thank his players for their effort and dedication.
Moving On
It’s a cold, harsh reality of the NFL: every year, a handful of coaches will get the axe. And while getting fired is never an easy thing to deal with, some coaches handle it better than others.
So, how do NFL coaches handle getting fired?
For some coaches, getting fired is the end of the world. They mope around, wallow in self-pity, and can never quite seem to move on. Others, however, take getting fired in stride. They use it as motivation to work harder and become better at their craft. And then there are those who simply don’t let getting fired get to them – they brush it off and continue on with their lives without skipping a beat.
Of course, not all coaches react the same way to getting axed – it really depends on the individual coach and his personal circumstances. But one thing is for sure: getting fired is never easy, no matter who you are.
