How Many Games Are in the NFL Season?
The NFL season consists of 16 regular season games for each team, plus any playoff games. Pre-season games are not included in this total.
How Many Games Are Left in the Season?
The NFL regular season is typically 17 weeks long, with each team playing 16 games. The season usually starts the week after Labor Day (the first Monday in September) and ends the week after Christmas. Pre-season games are generally played in August.
The NFL split its season into two halves in 2010, with each team playing two additional games. One game was played in Week 11 (which is now considered a “mini-bye” week for most teams), and the other game was played in Week 16. This gave each team an extra week of rest and preparation heading into the playoffs.
The NFL also changed its overtime rules in 2012, making it so that both teams would get at least one possession in OT if the receiving team did not score a touchdown on its first drive. In 2017, the league change things up again, reducing the OT period from 15 minutes to 10 minutes for regular season games.
How Many Games Are Left Today?
The answer to this question depends on what day it is and how far into the NFL season we are.
If today is Sunday, then there are usually 14 NFL games played. If it is Monday or Thursday, then there are usually 1 or 2 games played.
If today is any other day of the week during the NFL season (which runs from early September to early January), then there are no games being played today.
