Publicly Reported Cases

The NFL has released data on the number of players and personnel who have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of training camp. Of the 6,876 tests administered to players, just 26 have come back positive, representing a positivity rate of less than 0.4%. There have been 11 positives among 6,355 tests given to personnel other than players.

Confirmed Cases

A total of 113 NFL players have tested positive for COVID-19 since Aug. 1, according to data from the Players Association and obtained by ESPN. Ten of those players were active on their teams’ rosters as of Wednesday morning.Of those 113 players, 55 have been placed on Reserve/COVID-19, which either means they tested positive or they have been in close contact with an infected person. There have been no reported deaths among NFL players.

The Detroit Lions have been the hardest hit team, with 15 players testing positive. The Buffalo Bills have had the second-most with 10 players testing positive. Nine other teams have had five or more players test positive: the Miami Dolphins (nine), New England Patriots (eight), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (eight), Baltimore Ravens (seven), Houston Texans (six), Jacksonville Jaguars (six), Tennessee Titans (six) and Cincinnati Bengals (five).

How Many Players Are on the Reserve/COVID List?

As of December 8th, 2020, there are 83 NFL players on the Reserve/COVID list. This means that they have either tested positive for the virus or have been in close contact with someone who has. The list is updated every day and the number of players on it has been increasing steadily since the start of the season.

Reported Out

As of Thursday afternoon, there are a total of 69 players reported out due to testing positive for COVID-19 or being in close contact with someone who has tested positive, per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport. This is an increase from Wednesday’s 57 reported players. There are also five teams that have had at least one player test positive this week: the Baltimore Ravens, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers and Tennessee Titans.

Removed from Reserve/COVID List

As of October 13, 2020, there have been a total of seventeen NFL players who have been removed from the Reserve/COVID list. Players are removed from the list either by testing negative for COVID-19 or by completing the NFL’s COVID-19 protocols.

How Many Players Have Been Activated from the Reserve/COVID List?

The NFL has a total of 53 active players on the Reserve/COVID list as of Friday, December 4th. Out of those 53 players, only four have been activated from the list and are eligible to play in Sunday’s games. The four players that have been activated are all from the New Orleans Saints.

As of August 26, 2020, a total of 44 NFL players have been placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Of those, 30 have since been activated and 14 remain on the list.
