Contents
As the NFL season enters its final weeks, there are still four teams with a chance to finish the regular season undefeated.
The New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Rams, and New Orleans Saints all have a shot at going 16-0.
But history shows that it’s extremely difficult to finish the season undefeated, as only seven teams have done it in NFL history.
So which team has the best chance of joining the ranks of the undefeated this season?
Introduction
In the National Football League (NFL), there have been a number of teams who have gone an entire season without losing a game. This feat is so rare that it has only been accomplished 11 times in the history of the NFL, by 7 different teams. In addition, there have been 3 teams who have gone an entire season without being defeated, but with 1 tie on their record.
The 1972 Miami Dolphins
The 1972 Miami Dolphins season was the perfect season. The Dolphins went 14-0 in the regular season and then won all three of their playoff games, culminating in a win in Super Bowl VII. They are the only team in NFL history to finish a season undefeated and untied.
The 2007 New England Patriots
The 2007 New England Patriots became the first team since the 1972 Miami Dolphins to finish the regular season undefeated with a 16-0 record. Including their playoff wins, the Patriots finished the season with a perfect 18-0 record, becoming only the second team in NFL history to do so.
The 2009 Indianapolis Colts
The 2009 Indianapolis Colts season was the 57th season for the team in the National Football League and 27th in Indianapolis. The Colts improved upon their 10–6 record from 2008, going 14–2 in the regular season and earning them the first overall seed in the AFC playoffs. They defeated their division rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, 20–3 in the AFC Wild Card playoffs before defeating their bitter rivals, the New England Patriots, 21–18 in the AFC Divisional playoffs. The Colts then narrowly defeated their other AFC rival, the New York Jets, 30–17 to reach Super Bowl XLIV, where they were defeated by the New Orleans Saints 31–17.
The 2010 Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers were the last undefeated team in the NFL in 2010, going 15-1 in the regular season before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the divisional round of the playoffs.
The 2011 New York Giants

The 2012 Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have been led by their defense, which is ranked first in the NFL in points allowed per game. Their offense has also been very effective, ranking ninth in the NFL in points scored per game. The Ravens have won their games by an average margin of 12.1 points.
The 2015 Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers are currently the only undefeated team in the NFL. They have a record of 14-0 and are currently in first place in the NFC South Division. The Panthers have clinched a playoff spot and have a bye week in the first round of the playoffs.
