A tennis court is 78 feet long and 27 feet wide, for a total of 2,106 square feet. The dimensions of a tennis court have been standardized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) since 1924. All outdoor tennis courts laid out for singles matches must be a rectangular shape with the length being twice the width. The service line is 21 feet from the back line and the net is 3.5 feet high at the posts and 3 feet high in the middle.

The Dimensions of a Tennis Court
The dimensions of a tennis court are regulated by the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The court must be a rectangle that is 78 feet (23.77 meters) long and 27 feet (8.23 meters) wide for singles matches, or 36 feet (10.97 meters) wide for doubles matches. The service line is 21 feet (6.40 meters) from the back boundary
The singles court
A regulation tennis court for singles matches (sometimes called a “hard court”) is 78 feet (23.77 meters) long, and 27 feet (8.2 meters) wide for a total area of 2,106.80 square feet (196 square meters). Of this area, the 36-foot-wide (10.97 meter) alleys are used only as boundaries in the doubles games. The 27-foot-wide (8.2 meter) service courts are used only as boundaries in the singles games. The remainder of the court is occupied by the 27-foot-wide (8.2 meter) service line at each end of the court; the net, which is 3.5 feet (1.07 meters) high at the center and which has a cord suspended from it that is 3 feet (.91 meter) above the ground; and 7-foot-high (2.13 meter), posts that are set 21 feet 3 inches apart on each side of the net at its center point on each end line These dimensions result in a rectangular playing surface that measures 84 feet long by 42 feet wide for singles games: 78 by 36 feet for doubles games
The doubles court
A regulation tennis court for doubles play is 84 feet (25.6 m) long and 42 feet (12.8 m) wide for a total area of 3,736 square feet (347.1 m2).However, if there are only three people playing, the dimensions can be reduced to 78 by 36 feet (23.7 by 11.0 m), resulting in a total area of 2,808 square feet (260.9 m2).[4]
The following are common playing areas for doubles:
-78 by 36 ft (23.7 by 11.0 m), total 2,808 sq ft (260.9 m2)
-84 by 42 ft (25.6 by 12.8 m), total 3,736 sq ft (347.1 m2)
Conclusion
A full-size tennis court is 60 feet wide and 120 feet long, which equals 7,200 square feet. However, most people don’t have the space for a full-size tennis court, so many courts areen’t that large. A typical backyard court is only 44 feet wide and 88 feet long, which is only 3,968 square feet.
