How Many States Have More Than One NFL Team?
The National Football League (NFL) is a professional American football league consisting of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference (NFC) and the American Football Conference (AFC). The NFL is one of the four major professional sports leagues in North America, and the highest professional level of American football in the world. NFL teams are spread out across the United States, with 28 teams in 26 states. But how many states have more than one team?
The answer may surprise you. Only 13 states have more than one NFL team. California leads the way with four teams, followed by Texas with three. Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania each have two teams. The other states with multiple NFL teams are Illinois, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
While it’s not surprising that some of the most populous states have more than one team ( California, Texas, and Florida ), it is interesting to note that smaller states like Missouri ( population 6 million ) and Wisconsin ( population 5.8 million ) also have multiple teams. This is likely due to the fact that these states have a long history of support for professional football.
