How many titles are in WWE? This is a question that is often asked by WWE fans. The answer is that there are a total of thirteen titles in WWE.
WWE Basics
There are currently four different titles in WWE: the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, the WWE United States Championship, the WWE Tag Team Championship, and the WWE Divas Championship. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is the most prestigious title in WWE and is currently held by Brock Lesnar. The WWE United States Championship is held by Alberto Del Rio. The WWE Tag Team Championship is held by The New Day. The WWE Divas Championship is held by Paige.
What is WWE?
World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc., d/b/a WWE, is an American professional wrestling promotion based in Stamford, Connecticut. WWE predominantly produces and airs staged entertainment events for an international audience through its subscription-based direct-broadcast television network and its basic cable channel, as well as distributing content across digital platforms such as its over-the-top streaming service, WWE Network. WWE is the largest professional wrestling company in the world.
What are the different titles in WWE?
WWE currently has six different titles for male competitors, four for female competitors, three for tag teams, and one for cruiserweights.
The WWE Universal Championship is considered to be the top title for male competitors on Monday Night Raw. The WWE Championship is considered to be the top title for male competitors on SmackDown Live. The WWE United Kingdom Championship is a secondary title for male competitors.
The WWE Universal Championship is considered to be the top title for female competitors on Monday Night Raw. The WWE Championship is considered to be the top title for female competitor on SmackDown Live.
The vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship is considered to be the top title for cruiserweight (205 lbs and under) male competitors that are appearing on both Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.
There are also two titles that are specific to certain events: The WWE Andrade “Cien” Almas Intercontinental Championship (Defended at live events) and The Great Khali “Punjabi Prison” Championship (Defended at live events in India).
WWE Titles
WWE has many titles that are defended by the Superstars on a weekly basis. The WWE has a total of eleven titles, which are the WWE Championship, the Universal Championship, the Intercontinental Championship, the United States Championship, the Raw Tag Team Championship, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, the Women’s Raw Championship, the Women’s SmackDown Championship, the Cruiserweight Championship, the NXT Championship, and the NXT UK Championship.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship
The WWE World Heavyweight Championship is a world heavyweight championship created and promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. It is one of two world titles in WWE, concurrently being defended on both the Raw and SmackDown brands, due to the 2008 draft. It is also one of three primary championships of WWE. The current champion is AJ Styles, who is in his second reign.
The title was established under then-WWE head writer Brian Gewirtz on October 20, 2002 as a solution to the problem of having two world champions—the World Heavyweight Championship and WWE Undisputed Championship—and two top contenders for each title. On June 6, 2006, ECW became WWE’s third brand when ECW One Night Stand aired on Sci Fi Channel; subsequently, the title became exclusive to the ECW brand until December 3, 2006 when Over the Limit was aired live on pay-per-view; during this time it became exclusive to the SmackDown! brand until 2007. On August 29, 2011, a fourth brand extension took effect as SmackDown was aired live on SyFy; this move resulted in all titles assigned to either Raw or SmackDown becoming exclusive to those respective brands—aside from certain crossover titles that could be defended on both brands—with wrestlers assigned to a specific brand also unable to challenge for or hold titles exclusive to another brand. As a result of the 2016 draft, which officially took place on July 19 and saw WCW’s former world heavyweight championship becoming defunct due to unclaimed WCW titles not following their respective superstars during the draft lottery (with only then-reigning champion Dean Ambrose being able to bring his version of the title), all former WCW titles were retired and replaced with new ones; resulting in that particular title also becoming defunct[citation needed].
On October 16, 2013 at Battleground, then-champion Randy Orton defeated Daniel Bryan in a “Champion vs. Champion” match when special guest referee Big Show turned heel and betrayed Bryan by delivering a knockout punch after Bryan had Orton trapped in his Yes Lock submission hold; thus unifying both world titles into one as a result of both belts being put up for grabs at Battleground with no brand affiliation required for either competitor due to the pre-match stipulation. On December 15 at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2013 John Cena defeated then-champion Randy Orton in an “armageddon” match also involving Daniel Bryan and Sheamus when he pinned Sheamus after an Attitude Adjustment off an electricity pole through a table set up in the ring for Cena’s trademark One Hundred G suplexes spot (a move which he had earlier done off camera against Big Show). This marked the first time that there had been only one world championship in WWE since August 29, 2011 when Raw got its own world heavyweight championship following SmackDown getting its own WWE Championship back as its top prize five days prior during that year’s Night of Champions pay-per-view.
WWE Universal Championship

The title was established in 1979 by Pat Patterson, making it the second oldest championship in WWE after the WWE Championship. It is named after the original intercontinental champions: Pat Patterson and Pedro Morales. The title was vacant for ten years from 1997 until 2007 as a result of the WWF/WWE brand extension, during which only Raw wrestlers were able to compete for it; however, every superstar on the SmackDown brand was able to compete for and win the newly created World Heavyweight Championship. Following the reintroduction of brand-exclusive championships in 2016, then-Raw general manager Mick Foley reactivated the Intercontinental Championship as a secondary title for male wrestlers on Raw.
As a result of the 2016 draft, the championship became exclusive to SmackDown, while Raw created and debuted the United States Championship to be its counterpart title.
WWE United States Championship
The WWE United States Championship is a professional wrestling championship promoted by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE on the SmackDown brand. It is one of two secondary titles for male wrestlers in WWE, complementing the WWE Championship. The United States Championship is considered a higher status than the Intercontinental Championship, which is WWE’s other secondary title for male wrestlers.
The current champion is Andrade, who is in his first reign. He defeated Rusev to win the title at WrestleMania 35.
The championship was introduced as the Television Championship on July 24, 1963, with Buddy Rogers becoming the inaugural champion.[1] It served as a secondary title until 1975, when it was deactivated in favor of the newly created King of the Ring tournament.[2] The title was reinstated eleven years later as the United States Championship on October 20, 1986, with Rick Rude being crowned as its inaugural champion.[3] Upon its reintroduction, it became exclusive to SmackDown and Raw ceased recognizing it as an active championship.[4][5] On March 17, 2001,[6] then-WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin defeated Kurt Angle to win both titles,[7][8][9][10] unifying them into one title known simply as “the Undisputed WWE Championship”. It retained this name until June 2002,[11] when it was renamed to the “World Heavyweight Championship”.[12][13][14]. After John Cena won that title in July 2004,[15][16] Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff presented him with a new US Championship belt on August 2.[17]. Through 2013 to 2015,[18][19][20], superstars were able to trade a respective brand’s championship back and forth between shows; however this ceased after Seth Rollins retained and then lost both World and US titles in one night during a single episode of Raw in early 2016….
WWE Tag Team Championship
The WWE Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling tag team championship in WWE. It is contested for exclusively within the tag team division of WWE. The title was created in 1971 as the original Tag Team Championship of the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF). The first champions were Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler, and the title was represented by a physical belt until 2002, when it was unified with the NWA World Tag Team Championship. The final holders prior to the championship’s discontinuation were Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas, who unified it with the World Tag Team Championship.
