How Many WR On NFL Roster?
How Many WR On NFL Roster is a question that is asked by many NFL fans. The answer to this question can be found by looking at the NFL roster.
The 53-man roster
As of the 2019 NFL season, each team is allowed to have a maximum of 53 players on their roster. Of these 53 players, 45 can be active (in uniform) for each game, and 11 are inactive. The inactive list usually consists of seven players who are injured and four who are healthy scratches.
The 46-man game-day roster
The NFL’s game-day roster rules are as follows:
46 player limit: Only 46 of the 53 players on a team’s active/inactive list can suit up for a game. The other seven players are inactive and cannot play.
7 inactive player limit: A team cannot have more than seven players inactive for a game.
Active/inactive list: Each week, on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, every NFL team must declare which of its 53 players will be active and which will be inactive for that week’s game. The list is final and cannot be altered, even if a player is injured in warm-ups prior to the game.
Players who are on a team’s 53-man roster but not on the active/inactive list for that week’s game are considered “healthy scratches.”
The 10-man practice squad
An NFL practice squad can have up to 10 players on it, and those 10 players are eligible to be activated to the 53-man roster at any point during the season. Players on the practice squad are paid per week, and they can be cut at any time without any financial repercussions.
The 10-man practice squad is a relatively new addition to the NFL; it was introduced in 2014 as part of a league-wide effort to improve player development. Prior to 2014, practice squads were limited to just eight players.
