It was Newton’s second Super Bowl appearance, but unfortunately, it didn’t go quite as well as his first. In Super Bowl 49, the Panthers faced off against the Broncos once again, but this time, Denver came out on top by a score of 24-10.

The American Football Conference (AFC) champion New England Patriots defeated the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Atlanta Falcons, 34–28, in overtime to earn their fifth Super Bowl title. The game was played on February 5, 2017, at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. This was the second time that the Super Bowl was played in Houston, the first being Super Bowl VIII in 1974.
