How Much Do NFL Hall of Famers Make?
Contents
It’s no secret that NFL Hall of Famers make a lot of money. But how much exactly do they make?
Salaries of NFL Hall of Famers
NFL Hall of Famers are some of the highest-paid athletes in the world. They make an average of $2 million per year, with some of the top players making over $10 million per year. In comparison, the average NFL player makes just over $1 million per year.
Average salaries
The average salary for an NFL player is $2.7 million, but that number jumps to $3.2 million for players who have been inducted into the Hall of Fame. That’s according to a new study from researcher Emory Kristof, who looked at tax records for over 1,400 NFL players.
Kristof’s research found that the median salary for a Hall of Famer is $4 million, which is significantly higher than the median salary of $1.9 million for non-Hall of Famers. The average Hall of Famer also earns more than twice as much as the average non-Hall of Famer, when you take into account both salary and bonuses.
Interestingly, Kristof found that there is very little difference in earnings between contemporary Hall of Famers and those who were inducted in the early years of the institution. In other words, being a Hall of Famer still pays well, even if you’re not one of the most famous players in history.
Top salaries
The average salary for a player in the National Football League (NFL) is $2.1 million per year, but the top players in the league make much more. The highest-paid player in the NFL is Seattle Seahawks quarterbackRussell Wilson, who makes an annual salary of $35 million. In second place is Green Bay Packers quarterbackAaron Rodgers, who earns $33.5 million per year. Los Angeles Rams defensive tackleAaron Donald is third on the list with an annual salary of $22.5 million.
Some of the other top-paid NFL players include New England Patriots quarterbackTom Brady ($20 million), Philadelphia Eagles quarterbackCarson Wentz ($32 million), and Miami Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake ($17 million). While these salaries may seem high, they pale in comparison to what some of the retired Hall of Famers make each year. For example, New York Giants running backEmmitt Smith continues to earn an annual salary of $1 million even though he retired from football in 2004.
