How Many Games are in an NBA Season?
The NBA season is 82 games long. That means if your team is .500, you’re a good bet to make the playoffs.
82
The regular NBA season consists of 82 games. That’s a lot of games! This can be grueling for the players, but it also means that there are a lot of opportunities for fans to watch their favorite team.
Preseason
The NBA preseason is the period of the year when the National Basketball Association (NBA) teams prepare for the upcoming regular season.
Preseason games start in late September, with each team playing four to eight games. The regular season starts in early October and runs until late April, with each team playing 82 games.
The NBA preseason is not as long or as intense as the preseason in other professional sports leagues, such as baseball or football. However, it is still an important time for teams to evaluate their players and make sure everyone is on the same page before the regular season starts.
Regular Season
An NBA season consists of 82 games, 41 home and 41 away, played over a six-month period from October to April. It begins in late October with each team playing two games, one home and one away. The season then proceeds with each team playing every other team in their conference four times, twice at home and twice away. Next, each team plays every team in the opposite conference two times, once at home and once away. Finally, each team plays the remaining teams in their conference three or four times, again depending on whether they are playing three or four games against those opponents.
Playoffs
In the NBA, the playoffs are a best-of-seven elimination tournament among sixteen teams that have qualified by having a record that is either among the sixteen best regular season records or among the eight best regular season records in their conference.
The playoffs begin in late April, with the Conference Semifinals being played in early May. The Conference Finals are played in mid-May, and the NBA Finals are played in late May or early June.
60
The NBA regular season is 82 games long, but each team only plays 82 out of 2930 possible games. 60 of those 82 games are against teams in their own conference.
Preseason
The NBA preseason is the period of the year when the National Basketball Association (NBA) teams start training for the upcoming season. It is typically held in October, with a few games taking place in September and November. The preseason generally lasts about two weeks, followed by a short break before the regular season begins in earnest.
During the preseason, NBA teams play between four and eight exhibition games against other NBA teams, as well as teams from different leagues around the world. These games do not count towards the team’s regular season record. However, they provide an opportunity for coaches to try out new players and strategies, and for players to get into game shape before the regular season begins.
Regular Season
The regular season is when each team plays 82 games. 60 of those are against teams in their own conference. 18 of those are against teams in the other conference. 4 of those games are played against two randomly selected teams from the other conference.
48
The NBA regular season is 82 games long, which is split evenly between home and away games. So, each team plays 41 home games and 41 away games.
Preseason
The preseason is the National Basketball Association (NBA)’s exhibition season, when teams prepare for the upcoming regular season by testing players and giving experience to rookies. It began on October 1, 2019, and ended on October 16, 2019. A total of eight games were played in the preseason.
Regular Season
An NBA regular season consists of 82 games, which are played over a span of about six months from late October/early November to mid-April. Each team plays 41 home games and 41 away games, playing every other team in the league at least four times (two at home, two away). When the schedule is released in August, every team knows exactly which 41 opponents they will be playing at home and which 41 they will be playing on the road.
This home-and-away format is different from most other major professional sports leagues in North America, which generally have more games and play a majority of them at home. For example, Major League Baseball teams play 162 games each season, with 81 at home and 81 on the road. National Hockey League teams play 82 games as well, but 43 of those are at home.
The NBA’s decision to schedule an equal number of home and away games for each team was made with two main objectives in mind: first, to create more “rivalry” games between teams that are based in the same geographic region (such as the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers or the Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins); and second, to eliminate any potential advantage or disadvantage a team might have by playing more or fewer home games than their opponents.
