1. Nat Hickey – 52 years old
Hickey was a journeyman player who bounced around the league during its early years. He made his debut with the Syracuse Nationals in 1948 at the age of 35 and played his final game in 1952 at the age of 39. He was also one of the first players to sign with the fledgling NBA after it absorbed several teams from the rival ABL.
2. Jim Barnes – 50 years old
Jim Barnes is one of only two players on this list who never played in an NBA game. He did, however, play for several seasons in the ABL and NBL (predecessor to the NBA) before finally hanging up his sneakers in 1953 at the age of 50. He is also one of only a handful of players to be named MVP in two different leagues (NBL and ABL).
3. Bob Dandridge – 49 years old
Dandridge was a key member of several successful Milwaukee Bucks teams in the 1970s, including their NBA Finals-winning squad in 1971. He averaged more than 20 points per game for his career and played until he was 40 years old before finally retiring in 1981.
4. Andrei Kirilenko – 47 years old
Kirilenko is one of the few active players on this list. He made his debut with the Utah Jazz back in 2001 and spent most of his career with them before moving on to play stints with Minnesota and Brooklyn. The 6’9” forward/center announced his retirement from basketball in 2015 at the age of 34 but came back two years later to play for CSKA Moscow of his native Russia. Kirilenko will turn 38 later this month and is currently signed with Khimki Moscow Region, making him not only one of the oldest active NBA players but also one of the oldest professional basketball players in general.
5 Keith Jackson – 45 years old
Jackson enjoyed a long and productive 16-year career in which he averaged double figures 11 times and scored more than 20 points per game on three occasions. He retired as a member of the Seattle SuperSonics in 2006 at age 45 after previously playing for Miami, Golden State, Milwaukee, Houston, Detroit, and Dallas.
