After WWF acquired World Championship Wrestling (WCW) in March 2001, Lita began appearing regularly on both Raw and SmackDown!, albeit as a heel. In late 2001, she aligned herself with The Hardy Boyz (Matt and Jeff), helping them win the WWF Tag Team Championship on two occasions. In early 2002, Lita won the WWF Women’s Championship for the first time.

Lita’s retirement

In September 2007, it was announced that Lita would be returning to WWE programming as a cast member on the forthcoming season of the reality television show, WWE Tough Enough. However, shortly thereafter, she was removed from the show due to a leaked nude photo scandal. She appeared on an episode of Hannah Montana in 2008 as Robby Ray Stewart’s (Billy Ray Cyrus) old flame.

On May 11, 2009, Lita made a one-time return to in-ring action at Backlash, defeating both Michelle McCool and Layla in a handicap match. After the match she cut a promo challenging any Diva to a match at Extreme Rules. The following night on Raw, it was announced by general manager Vickie Guerrero that Lita would face McCool at Extreme Rules for the Women’s Championship in a losing effort. The next night on ECW, she defeated McCool to win the Women’s Championship for the fourth time; however she lost the championship back to McCool two weeks later.

Lita retired from professional wrestling in November 2011 but has made sporadic appearances for WWE since her departure. In February 2014, she was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of WrestleMania XXX festivities.
