How to Clean a Baseball Cap with Cardboard
Learn how to clean a baseball cap with cardboard and keep it looking new for seasons to come!
Materials
You will need the following materials: a baseball cap, cardboard, scissors, and a pen. First, you will need to find a baseball cap that you would like to clean. Next, you will need to gather some cardboard. After you have gathered the materials, you will need to follow these steps.
Gather your materials: a baseball cap, a piece of cardboard, and a toothbrush.
Now that you have your materials, it’s time to start cleaning!
Prep the Cap
If your baseball cap is starting to look a little worse for wear, don’t worry – with a little time and effort, you can clean it up and make it look good as new! The first step is to prep the cap by removing any dirt or grime that might be on it. You can do this by gently scrubbing the cap with a damp cloth.
Place the baseball cap on the piece of cardboard.
First, place the baseball cap on the piece of cardboard. You may want to use a paper plate or something similar to keep the work area clean. Using the dinner knife, cut around the bill of the cap about 1/4-inch from the edge. Turn the cap over and repeat on the other side.
With the scissors, carefully cut along the seam that runs around the crown of the baseball cap. Remove any loose threads. If necessary, trim any frayed edges around the hole you just created.
Wet the toothbrush with water.
Dip an old toothbrush in water and wet the areas of the cap with dirt or build-up. You don’t need to use soap at this point.
Scrub the Cap
Fill a sink with warm water and add a little bit of dish soap. Submerge the baseball cap in the soapy water and let it soak for a few minutes. While the baseball cap is soaking, take a piece of cardboard and cut it into a spiral. This will be used to scrub the baseball cap.
Use the toothbrush to scrub the bill of the cap.
Use an old toothbrush (or a new one if you don’t mind getting it dirty) to scrub the bill of the cap. Dip the toothbrush in the soapy water and scrub the bill in a circular motion. Be sure to get into all the nooks and crannies. Once you’ve gone over the entire bill, rinse it off with clean water.
Scrub the front, back, and sides of the cap.
A baseball cap is a type of soft cap with a rounded crown and a stiff peak projecting in front. The front of the cap typically contains designs or logos of sports teams (namely baseball teams) or the manufacturer’s logo. The back of the cap may be “fitted” to the wearer’s head size or it may have a plastic, adjustable closure. Baseball caps are generally made of wool, cotton, twill, or synthetic fabrics.
Start by scrubbing the front, back, and sides of the cap with a toothbrush. Pay special attention to any areas that are stained or excessively dirty. If you have trouble reaching all the nooks and crannies, try using an old toothbrush or Q-tip dipped in fabric cleaner. Once you’ve given the entire surface a good scrubbing, rinse the hat with clean water and allow it to air dry.
Rinse the Cap
Before you start cleaning your baseball cap, rinse it with cold water to remove any loose dirt or debris. If the cap is extremely dirty, you can soak it in a sink or tub filled with cold water for about 15 minutes.
Rinse the baseball cap with water.
Start by rinsing the baseball cap with water to remove any loose dirt or debris. Be sure to rinse the brim and the back of the cap, as these areas can often be overlooked. If the baseball cap is extremely dirty, you may need to use a small amount of mild soap on a damp cloth to remove any stubborn stains.
Dry the Cap
If your baseball cap is made of cloth, you can machine wash and dry it. If your baseball cap is made of leather, you can hand wash it with a damp cloth. To clean a baseball cap with cardboard, you will need to follow these steps.
Place the baseball cap on a towel to dry.
Cardboard can help your baseball cap keep its shape while it dries. If you don’t have a towel handy, or if your towel is wet, lay the baseball cap on top of a dry, clean piece of cardboard. Place the cardboard inside the brim of the baseball cap so that it helps the baseball cap retain its shape.
