How to Draw an NFL Player
Contents
Follow these simple steps to draw an NFL player. With a little practice, anyone can draw a realistic NFL player.
Sketch the basic outline of the player.
Start by sketching the basic outline of the player. Use a light pencil so you can easily erase if you make a mistake. Draw two lines to start the neck, and then add the oval for the head. Sketch in the rough shape of the torso, arms, and legs. You can use some basic shapes to help you with this step: circles for the joints, ovals for the hands and feet, rectangles for the torso, etc. Don’t worry about getting everything perfect at this stage; just try to get a general sense of where everything will go.
Sketch in the player’s jersey.
Start by sketching in the player’s jersey. Make sure to include all of the details, such as the number, name, and team logo. Once you have the jersey down, you can start to sketch in the rest of the player’s body.
Draw the player’s shoulder pads.
Start by drawing the player’s shoulder pads. These will be two large, curved shapes, connected in the middle. The shoulder pads should be wide enough to cover the player’s entire shoulders, and they should come down almost to the player’s waist.
Sketch in the player’s helmet.
Begin by sketching in the player’s helmet. For a more realistic drawing, try to make the helmet as accurate to an NFL helmet as possible. If you want a more cartoonish look, feel free to make the helmet more exaggerated and simplified. Next, sketch in the player’s face. Again, you can go for a more realistic or exaggerated look, depending on your preference. Be sure to include his eyes, nose, and mouth.
Draw the player’s arms and hands.
The next step is to draw the player’s arms and hands. First, draw a rectangle for the shoulder pads. Then, draw two lines coming down from the rectangle for the arms. At the end of each line, draw a small circle for the hands. Make sure that the lines are not too close together or too far apart.
Sketch in the player’s legs and feet.
Start by sketching in the basic shapes of the player’s legs and feet. As you can see, the left leg is in front of the right, and the left foot is closer to you than the right. This will give the illusion of depth when we add volume to the sketch later on.
Draw the player’s face.
Start by drawing the player’s face. The face will be the most important part of the drawing, so take your time and make sure it looks good. Use a reference photo if you need to, and trace the basic outline of the face onto your paper. Next, start to add in the details of the face, such as the eyes, nose, and mouth. You can also add wrinkles and other details to make the face look more realistic. Finally, add some shading to give the face more dimension.
