How to Hang a Tennis Ball for Parking
Looking for an easy way to make sure you always park in the same spot? Try this simple hack: hang a tennis ball from your car’s rearview mirror.
Materials
The following materials are needed in order to complete this project: a tennis ball, a length of string, a hammer, nails, and a tape measure. With these simple materials, you can create a parking aid that will help you avoid curbing your wheels or taking up too much space in a parking spot. Let’s get started.
Tennis ball
You’ll need a tennis ball for this project. You can find them at sporting goods stores, or online. Make sure to get one that’s designed for tennis, as other types of balls won’t work as well.
String
String is one of the most commonly used materials for hanging a tennis ball for parking. You can use either heavy-duty fishing line or thin cotton twine. If you use fishing line, be sure to tie a knot in the end to keep the ball from slipping off. If you use cotton twine, you can simply tie a loop in the end.
Tape
There are several different types of tape that can be used for this project, but we recommend using either painter’s tape or masking tape. Both of these types of tape have a strong adhesive that will hold the tennis ball in place, but they can also be easily removed without damaging the paint on your car.
Step One
You will need a tennis ball, a length of string, and a hammer. It is best to do this in an unused parking spot so you do not annoy your neighbors. It is also best to do this in a spot that does not have a lot of foot traffic so the ball does not get in the way.
Park your car in the garage
If you have a garage, park your car in there. This will make it much easier to work on your vehicle, and you won’t have to worry about the elements or other cars. If you don’t have a garage, find a spot where you can park your car without blocking traffic or trespassing.
Get out your materials
To get started, you’ll need a tennis ball, a sharpie, some scissors, string, and tape. You can find all of these things around your house or at a local store. Once you have your materials, you’re ready to get started!
Step Two
Use a measuring tape to measure four feet from the ground. Mark this spot with a piece of chalk. This is where you will need to place your hook.
Cut a small hole in the tennis ball
Use a sharp knife to cut a small, evenly-sized hole in the tennis ball. The size of the hole should be big enough for the twine or yarn to fit through snugly, but not so large that the ball becomes misshapen.
Thread the string through the hole
Thread the string through the hole in the tennis ball. You can do this by hand, or if the hole is too small, use a needle or a sharp object to make a hole large enough to thread the string through. Once the string is through the hole, tie a knot to secure it in place.
Step Three
Drill a hole in the tennis ball. The hole should be big enough to fit a screw through it. The size of the hole will depend on the type of screw you’re using. You can also use a hot glue gun to make a hole in the tennis ball.
Tie the string to the underside of your car’s front bumper
If you don’t have a front bumper, you can tie the string to the frame of your car. Make sure the string is long enough to reach the ground when your car is parked. You can also use a tape measure to measure the string before you tie it to your car.
Cut the excess string
After you have hung the tennis ball and marked your spot, it is time to cut the excess string. You will want to leave enough string so that you can easily reach the ball, but you will also want to make sure that it is not in the way.
Step Four
Now that you have all of your supplies, it is time to get started on hanging your tennis ball for parking. This is a pretty simple process, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind. First, you need to make sure that you are parking your car in the right spot. You also need to make sure that the tennis ball is positioned correctly so that it does not get in the way of your car. Let’s get started.
Hang the tennis ball from the string
Find a good spot to hang your tennis ball. You’ll want to make sure the string is taut, and that the tennis ball will be at about head level when you’re sitting in your car. Once you’ve found the perfect spot, tie a knot in the string to hold the tennis ball in place.
Test to make sure the ball is hanging low enough to hit the ground when you pull into your parking spot
The easiest way to test whether the ball is hanging low enough is to get into your car and drive slowly forward until the front bumper just touches the ball. If the ball hits the ground before your bumper makes contact, it’s too low and you’ll need to adjust it.
