A game of tennis doubles is played between two teams of two players each. The game is played on a tennis court, and the aim is to hit the tennis ball over the net into your opponent’s court, and to make it bounce before they can return it.

If you’re new to tennis, or doubles in particular, then this guide will show you everything you need to know in order to get started. We’ll cover the basics

How to Play Tennis Doubles?

Introduction

Tennis is a great game to play with friends and family. Playing Tennis doubles is a great way to get involved in the game and have fun. There are a few things you should know before you start playing tennis doubles. In this article, we will cover the basics of how to play tennis doubles.

The Serve

Your serve is the most important stroke in doubles. It is your only chance to control the point from the very beginning. The object of the serve is to hit the ball into the service box diagonally opposite you, not allowing your opponents to return it. If you hit a good serve, you and your partner will be in a good position to win the point.

The service box is 21 feet wide, and you must serve from behind the baseline — meaning that you must not step on or over the baseline until after you hit the ball. If you do, it’s a foot fault and your opponents will automatically win the point.

You can serve from anywhere along the back line, but most players have a strong preference for serving from one side or the other. When you’re just starting out, experiment with both sides to see which one feels more comfortable for you.

To start the point, one player serves while their partner stands at the net ready to receive any balls that are not outright winners. After each point, players rotate positions so that everyone gets a turn at serving and everyone also gets a break from having to run all over the court.

The Return

As soon as your partner hits the ball, you should start running towards the center line so you can be in position to hit the ball when it comes to your side. If your partner hits the ball deep, you will have to run further to reach the center line. You should always try to hit the ball in the middle of your body so you can control it better. Once you reach the center line, stop and get ready to hit the ball.

The Volley

In tennis, “doubles” refers to a match played by two people on each side. When playing doubles, there are a few specific strategies that you and your partner can use to give you an advantage over your opponents.

One important strategy is known as “the volley.” To execute a volley, both you and your partner should position yourselves at the net. As the ball comes over the net, one of you will hit it back before it has a chance to bounce on the ground. This makes it harder for your opponents to return the ball and gives you a better chance of winning the point.

Another strategy you can use is known as “the lob.” To execute a lob, one player on each team stays back near the baseline while the other player(s) come up to the net. As the ball is hit over the net, the player at the baseline will hit it high into the air, making it difficult for your opponents to return it.

There are many other strategies that you can use when playing tennis doubles, but these are two of the most basic and effective ones. By using these strategies, you can give yourself and your partner a significant advantage over your opponents.

The Overhead Smash

The overhead smash is one of the most exciting and important strokes in tennis. If you are fortunate enough to have a partner who can hit this stroke effectively, you will have a decided advantage in your matches. This is especially true on the first serve when your opponents are standing at the baseline and are not able to return an effective lob.

When both players are at the net, the overhead smash can be used as an offensive weapon to put your opponents on the defensive. It can also be used as a defensive stroke when you and your partner are at the baseline and your opponents are at the net. In this case, you would hit the ball high over your opponents’ heads so that they would have difficulty returning it.

There are two main types of overhead smashes:

The first type is hit with a Continental grip with both hands on the racket. The second type is hit with an Eastern grip with one hand on the racket and one hand behind the back (this is sometimes called a Western grip).

The main difference between these two grips is that the Continental grip gives you more power while the Eastern grip gives you more control.

The Lob

The lob in tennis doubles is one of the most important shots. It can get your team out of trouble and into a winning position. Here’s how to play it.

When to Use It
The lob is most effective when your opponents are at the net and you are at the back of the court. It can also be used as a surprise shot when your opponents are not expecting it.

How to Execute It
To execute a successful lob, hit the ball high and deep into your opponents’ court. The ball should land just inside the baseline so that your opponents have to run back to get it.

Tips for Success
– Aim for the corners of the court. This will make it harder for your opponents to get to the ball.
– Use spin to keep the ball in play longer. A topspin lob will drop quickly, making it hard to chase down. A slice lob will go sideways, making it hard to hit.

The Let

When the serve hits the net and falls into the proper service court, it is called a let and the point is played over. If the ball hits the net on a second serve and falls into the correct service court, it is not a let. This rule applies to both singles and doubles.

The Doubles Point

In tennis doubles, the players start on opposite sides of the center line as they do in singles. The server stands behind the baseline, and the receiver stands anywhere on their side of the net diagonally across from where the server is standing. The first player to serve is chosen by a coin toss, and that player serves for one game. After that game is over, the server then moves to the other side of the baseline, and it is now that player’s turn to serve for one game. This pattern of serving then moving continues throughout the set until one team reaches 6 games and wins, provided that they are ahead by 2 games. If necessary, a 7th game (a tiebreaker) is played to determine the winner of the set.

The Tiebreaker

The tiebreaker is when the score reaches 6-6 in any set (male players) or when it reaches 5-5 in any set (female players). At this point, a player from each team serves two consecutive points, starting from the right side of the service line. The points are played just like any other, except that the server’s partner stands at the net and tries to return any balls that go past the server. The first team to win seven points wins the tiebreaker and the set.
