How To Read The Spread In NFL Football

How to Read the Spread in NFL Football will teach you everything you need to know about how to properly read a spread.

How To Read The Spread In NFL Football

The spread is the most common way to bet on NFL football, and it can be a bit confusing to understand at first. The basic idea is that you are betting on whether the final score will be higher or lower than the spread. For example, if the Patriots are playing the Jets and the spread is 7, that means that the Patriots are 7 points better than the Jets. If you bet on the Patriots, they need to win by more than 7 points for you to win your bet.

What is the Spread?

The spread is the most common way to bet on NFL football. It is simply a matter of picking one team to win and one team to lose. The sports book will set a line, or spread, and you can bet on either team winning by more than the spread or losing by less than the spread.

For example, let’s say that the New England Patriots are playing the Indianapolis Colts and the sports book has set the line at 7 points. This means that you can bet on either team winning by more than 7 points or losing by less than 7 points. If you bet on the Patriots, they must win by more than 7 points for you to win your bet. If you bet on the Colts, they must lose by less than 7 points for you to win your bet.

If the final score ends up being Patriots 21, Colts 14, then those who bet on the Patriots would win their bets, while those who bet on the Colts would lose their bets.

It’s important to note that the Spread is not related to which team is favored to win; rather it is simply a matter of who is more likely to win by how much.

How To Read The Spread

The point spread is the most common way to bet on NFL football. The point spread is the number of points that are given or taken from the favorite team to determine who wins the bet. For example, if the New England Patriots are playing the Buffalo Bills and the Patriots are favored by 7 points, then 7 points will be given to the Bills if they win. If the Patriots win by more than 7 points, then they will have taken more than 7 points away from the Bills and will have covered the spread.

How The Spread Works

The point spread is the number of points that oddsmakers believe will be between the two teams on the football field. The spread is used to even the playing field and attract betting action on both sides. In order for a bet on the favorite to win, that team must win by more points than the spread. Similarly, for a bet on the underdog to win, that team must either win the game outright or lose by fewer points than the spread. The point spread is the most common way to bet on NFL football.

How The Spread Works

The Spread, also known as the Point Spread or simply Spread, is the number of points by which the better team is expected to defeat the weaker team. This number is set by oddsmakers before each game and moves based on betting action.

The most common way to bet on football is against the spread. This means that you are predicting whether the better team will win by more than the spread, or whether the worse team will lose by less than the spread.

For example, let’s say that the New England Patriots are playing the Miami Dolphins. The Patriots are favored to win by 7 points. This means that oddsmakers believe that they will win by more than 7 points, or that the Dolphins will lose by less than 7 points.

If you bet on the Patriots against the spread, then you are predicting that they will win by more than 7 points. If they win by exactly 7 points, then it is a push (meaning that you get your original bet back).

On the other hand, if you bet on the Dolphins +7, then you are predicting that they will either win outright or lose by less than 7 points. If they lose by exactly 7 points, then it is a push.

How To Use The Spread

If you are new to sports betting, one of the first things you need to understand is how the spread works. In football, the spread is the number of points by which one team is favored over another. For example, if Team A is a 7-point favorite over Team B, that means Team A is expected to win by 7 points. If you bet on Team A, they must win by more than 7 points for you to win your bet; if they win by 7 points, it is a push (a tie). If they lose by 6 points or fewer, or if they lose the game outright, then you lose your bet.

How To Bet The Spread

In order to bet the spread, you will need to know how it works. The spread is the amount of points that are given to the underdog team. For example, if the New England Patriots are playing the Buffalo Bills, and the Pats are favored to win by 7 points, that means that the Bills are considered the underdog and are given 7 points.

How To Bet The Spread

The “spread” is the point differential between two team’s final scores. The favorite team is usually indicated by a minus (-) sign. The underdog team is usually indicated by a plus (+) sign. For example, let’s say that the New England Patriots are playing the Indianapolis Colts and the Patriots are -7.5 point favorites . . . this means that the final score spread between these two teams will be 7.5 points in favor of the New England Patriots over the Indianapolis Colts.

The way to bet on the favorite is to lay (bet) the spread number
The way to bet on the underdog is to take (bet) the spread number

For our purposes let’s say you bet $110 on the favorite, New England (-7.5). In order for you to cash your ticket (win your bet), New England must win their game against Indianapolis BY MORE THAN 7.5 POINTS . . . in other words, they can win by 8 points, 9 points, 10 points or more, but if they only win by 7 points then your ticket will be a loser and you will forfeit your $110 bet.

If you had instead bet $110 ON THE UNDERDOG COLTS (+7.5), then for you to cash your ticket Indianapolis would have to either lose by no more than 7 points OR WIN THE GAME outright! In other words, even if Indianapolis only loses by 6 or 7 points but never gets more than 7 points ahead at any time during their game against New England then your ticket will still be a winner! If they lose by 8 or more points OR if they get ahead by any amount of points at any time in their game against New England then you will lose your $110 bet.

How To Win The Spread

In order to win the spread, you need to understand how the spread works. The spread is the difference between the two teams’ scores. The favorite team is always given a negative number, while the underdog team is given a positive number. The favorite team must win by more than the spread in order for bettors to win their bets. If the favorite team only wins by the spread, it is a push and bettors get their money back. If the underdog team wins outright, bettors who bet on them will win their bets.
