The Hun School’s History of Baseball

The Hun School of Baseball has a long and storied history. Founded in 1871, the school has been churning out top-notch ballplayers for over 145 years. Major League Baseball Hall of Famers Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb both attended the Hun School, as did legendary New York Yankees manager Casey Stengel The school has also produced a number of All-Americans, including pitcher Carl Hubbell and infielder Eddie Collins.

Today, the Hun School remains one of the Premier Baseball programs in the country. Located in Princeton, New Jersey, the school competes in the highly competitive Mid-Atlantic Conference The Hun School has won conference championships in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2018. In 2019, the school reached the semifinal round of the National High School Invitational tournament.

The Hun School’s Coaching Staff

The Hun School of Baseball is proud to boast a Coaching Staff with a wealth of experience at the highest levels of the game. Our coaches have experience coaching at the collegiate, professional, and international levels, and have helped develop some of the game’s brightest young stars

Our Head Coach Matt Garland, played professional baseball for 12 years, including stints with the New York Yankees Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners Coach Garland has also served as a coach and scout for Major League Baseball teams, and is one of the most respected hitting coaches in the Game Today

Coach Garland is joined on our staff by pitching Coach Mike Marshall, who pitched in the Major Leagues for 15 years with six different teams. Coach Marshall has also served as a pitching coach at the collegiate and professional levels, and his wealth of knowledge is invaluable to our pitchers.

Rounding out our staff is hitting coach Mark Teixeira who played Major League Baseball for 17 years with four different teams. Coach Teixeira was a two-time World Series champion and was named an All-Star five times during his illustrious career. As a hitting coach, Coach Teixeira brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team that will benefit our hitters immensely.

The school’s main facility is the Hun Athletic Complex, which includes a state-of-the-art baseball stadium practice fields, and a weight room. The complex is located in Princeton, New Jersey, just minutes from Newark Liberty International Airport.

The Hun School of Baseball competes in the Prep baseball league (PBL), which is widely regarded as one of the top high school baseball leagues in the country. The PBL is comprised of 24 teams from across the Northeast, including traditional powerhouses such as St. Francis Prep, Seton Hall Prep, and Xaverian. The Hun School has been a member of the PBL since its inception in 2001, and has won two league championships (2003, 2004).
