Throughout his childhood and adolescence, Sanders excelled at a number of sports including football, baseball, basketball, and track and field. He attended North Fort Myers High School where he played football, baseball, and ran track. In 1985, he was named USA Today’s High School Athlete of the Year.

Sanders accepted a full scholarship to play football at Florida State University. He also played baseball for the Seminoles. In 1988, Sanders had one of the most successful collegiate seasons ever for a two-sport athlete. He helped lead the Seminoles football team to a national championship and was named a consensus All-American. On the baseball diamond, he hit .331 with eight home runs and stole 26 bases. He was also named ACC Player of the Year and led FSU to the College World Series.

She was a star athlete herself, playing basketball at the University of Kansas before going on to play professionally in Europe. In 2011, she launched her own line of hair care products.
