Seth Curry’s NBA Career
Seth Curry is an American professional basketball player for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Davidson College before being drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft. He is the son of former NBA player Dell Curry and the younger brother of current NBA player Stephen Curry.
His time with the Dallas Mavericks
Seth Curry played for the Dallas Mavericks from 2017 to 2019. In his two seasons with the Mavericks, Curry averaged 12.4 points, 2.6 assists, and 2.7 rebounds per game. He shot 47% from the field and 42% from three-point range in his time with the Mavericks.
In 2017-18, his first season with the Mavericks, Curry was named the NBA’s Most Improved Player. He averaged a career-high 16.1 points per game that season and helped the Mavericks to a 24-58 record, their best record since 2015-16.
The following season, 2018-19, was not as successful for either Curry or the Mavericks. The Mavericks finished 33-49 and missed the playoffs. Curry’s scoring average dipped to 11.8 points per game as he saw his role reduced in Dallas’ offense.
Curry was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers prior to the start of the 2019-20 season in a deal that sent Jimmy Butler to the Miami Heat.
His time with the Sacramento Kings
In 2017, Curry was signed by the Sacramento Kings. He made his debut for the Kings in their season opener against the Houston Rockets, recording four points and three assists in 15 minutes off the bench. On October 30, 2017, he scored a then career-high 21 points in a 105–100 win over the Detroit Pistons. On November 22, 2017, he was ruled out for at least two weeks with a sprained left ankle.
Why Curry is not in the NBA
Seth Curry is a point guard who has played for several NBA teams, most recently the Portland Trail Blazers. Curry is the younger brother of Stephen Curry, who is a two-time NBA MVP and currently plays for the Golden State Warriors. Many people have wondered why Curry has not been able to find a more permanent spot in the NBA.
Lack of size
Seth Curry, younger brother of NBA superstar Stephen Curry, is a 6’2” shooting guard who played college basketball for Duke University. He went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft and has spent most of his professional career playing in the NBA Development League (D-League), as well as overseas. In July 2017, he signed a two-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks.
Curry is considered undersized for an NBA shooting guard, and this has been a major factor in why he hasn’t been able to carved out a significant role in the league. Curry is an excellent shooter, but at 6’2”, he doesn’t have the size or length to defend taller and stronger players at his position. He also doesn’t have the explosiveness or athleticism to create his own shot against NBA-level defenders.
Since he entered the league, Curry has bounced around from team to team and has never been able to secure a consistent spot in an NBA rotation. He played sparingly for the Sacramento Kings during his rookie season and then was traded to the New Orleans Pelicans, where he saw even less playing time. He was then waived by the Pelicans and spent time with three different D-League teams before signing with the Mavericks in 2017.
Lack of athleticism
Curry is not in the NBA because of his lack of athleticism. He is not tall enough, does not have enough upper body strength, and is not fast enough to play with the big boys.
Seth Curry’s father Dell Curry played in the NBA for 16 years. He was a sharpshooter, but he was also an outstanding athlete. He was 6’4″, 200 pounds, and could run like the wind. Seth Curry is 6’2″, 185 pounds, and cannot run like his father.
Curry is a good player. He can shoot the lights out. In fact, he may be the best shooter in the world, but that doesn’t mean he can play in the NBA.
Curry’s Potential
Seth Curry is an American professional basketball player for the Portland Trail Blazers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for Davidson College before being drafted as the seventh overall pick by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2009 NBA draft. He is the younger brother of Stephen Curry.
His shooting ability
Seth Curry is one of the best shooters in the NBA. He has a career three-point percentage of 44.4 percent, which ranks him seventh all-time among players with at least 400 three-pointers made. Curry is also an excellent free throw shooter, as he has shot 85.9 percent from the line for his career.
What makes Curry such a great shooter is his ability to shoot off the catch and off the dribble. He is very comfortable shooting threes off the catch, as he has made 41.7 percent of his catch-and-shoot threes for his career. This season, Curry is averaging 4.9 catch-and-shoot threes per game and he is making 46.2 percent of them.
Curry is also an elite shooter off the dribble. He has a quick release and he is very accurate when shooting off the dribble. This season, Curry is averaging 3.1 pull-up threes per game and he is making 45 percent of them. For his career, Curry has made 40 percent of his pull-up threes
His ball-handling skills
Seth Curry has shown the ability to play both on and off the ball. He is very comfortable in pick and roll situations and can operate as a lead ball handler or a pass first point guard. He is an excellent shooter off the catch or off the dribble and has a quick release. He also has a nice floater in the lane that he can use to score over taller defenders.
