NBA G League

The NBA G League, formerly the National Basketball Development League (NBDL) and the NBA Development League (NBA D-League), is the National Basketball Association’s official minor league basketball organization. The league was founded in 2001, and is currently composed of 26 teams; it will expand to 27 teams for the 2019–20 season. Each team plays 50 games in an 84-day season. Through 2017, seven current or former NBA Grads have been assigned to G League rosters through their NBA Affiliate Player program . Players experience many of the same issues as players in Major League Baseball’s farm system: They play long seasons with very few off days, spend most of their time on buses traveling to distant cities for games, report to spring training far away from their homes without knowing whether they will be with their team or not come opening day. But there are also several key differences:NBA players are under no obligation to report to the G League, so many choose not to unless they are unhappy with their current situation. They can be recalled by their NBA team at any time, and they will receive full NBA salaries while in the G League. G League salaries range from $19,500 to $26,000 , and players can earn additional money by being named to an All-Star team or winning one of the league’s end-of-season awards .
