Is the NFL in the Playoffs?

What are the NFL playoffs?

The National Football League (NFL) Playoffs are a single-elimination tournament held after the regular season to determine the NFL champion. Each year, 12 teams qualify for the playoffs: the top six teams in each of the NFL’s two conferences—the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), based on their regular-season records—and four wild card teams (the top two non-division winners in each conference with the best records). A similar system was used in 1967 but with only four teams qualifying from each conference.

During the first three rounds of the playoffs, which are referred to as the Wild Card playoffs and Divisional playoffs, match-ups are determined solely by regular-season records. Since 1975, if two or more teams from a conference finish with identical records, a tiebreaking procedure is used to determine which team advances to the playoffs and which team goes home.

The sixth seed hosts the third seed while the fifth seed hosts the fourth seed in both conferences during Wild Card weekend. The first round of this single-elimination tournament is often called the Wild Card game or simply Wild Card weekend. The winners of Wild Card weekend advance to play against the top two seeded teams in each conference during Divisional weekend. The losers of divisional weekend go home for good while the winners advance to Championship Sunday or Conference Championships, respectively.

On Championship Sunday or Conference Championships, which is always held on either January 20 or January 21, respectively, The AFC Championship game is played at 3:00 PM EST and is televised on CBS while The NFC Championship game is played at 6:30 PM EST and is televised on Fox. The winner of each game advances to Super Bowl LII or Super Bowl 52 which will be played on February 4 at U.S Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota and will be televised by NBC at 6:30 PM EST.

How do teams qualify for the playoffs?

In order to be eligible for the playoffs, a team must have a winning record and must have also played in a minimum of eight NFL games. If there are ties in records among teams, certain tiebreakers are used to determine which team(s) advance to the playoffs. Once the playoff field is set, the teams are seeded based on their regular season records. The lowest-seeded team then plays the highest-seeded team in each conference in the first round of the playoffs, called the Wild Card round. The second round of the playoffs is called the Divisional round, and in this round, the remaining teams in each conference play each other. The winners of each Divisional round game then advance to their respective conference’s championship game, called the Conference Championship games. Finally, the two Conference Champions play each other in the last game of the NFL season, called the Super Bowl.

Who are the favorites to win the Super Bowl?

The NFL playoffs are right around the corner, and there are a few teams that seem to be head and shoulders above the rest.

The New England Patriots have been dominant all season, led by quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots are looking to become the first team to win back-to-back Super Bowls since they did it in 2003 and 2004.

The Seattle Seahawks are also looking strong, led by their “Legion of Boom” defense. The Seahawks are looking to repeat as Super Bowl champions after winning it all last year.

The Green Bay Packers are another team to watch out for. Led by quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Packers have one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Finally, the Indianapolis Colts are a team on the rise. Led by quarterback Andrew Luck, the Colts have improved dramatically since last season, and they could be a dark horse in this year’s playoffs.
