Is WWE Getting Better?
Contents
WWE has been on a bit of a hot streak as of late. Is this the new normal or just a blip on the radar?
Ratings
WWE’s ratings have been on a decline for the past few years. Many people have stopped watching due to the lack of interesting storylines and matches. However, there are some people who believe that WWE is getting better. Let’s take a look at the ratings to see if this is true.
2017
In 2017, WWE continued to produce entertaining and exciting programming, but there were some issues that caused concern among fans. The biggest problem was the lack of competition from other wrestling companies. This made it feel like WWE was the only game in town, and fans were worried that WWE would become complacent. Another issue was the inconsistent quality of matches. Some matches were excellent, but others fell flat. This made it difficult for fans to know what to expect from WWE. Overall, though, WWE had a good year in 2017 and fans are hopeful that 2018 will be even better.
2016
In 2016, WWE”s programming was generally well-received by critics. For example, IGN gave Raw a 7 out of 10 rating in January, saying “WWE Raw continues to be must-see TV thanks to top-notch matches and storylines that are starting the year off strong”, while giving the Royal Rumble PPV an 8 out of 10 rating, saying it was “one of the best Royal Rumbles in recent memory”. Review aggregator site Metacritic gave SmackDown a “generally favorable” score of 73% based on 5 reviews.
Main Event Scene
The WWE has been on a steady decline in recent years. The product has been stale, the booking has been bad, and the overall product has been struggling. However, there has been a recent change in the WWE. The WWE has been putting on better shows as of late. The main event scene has been improving as well.
2017
In 2017, WWE made some significant changes that have led to a more enjoyable product. The brand split was resurrected, allowing for two separate rosters and distinct show identities. The Cruiserweight Classic tournament introduced a new generation of talent to WWE fans, and the Mae Young Classic did the same for female performers. The company’s relationship with New Japan Pro Wrestling led to the historic G1 Special in Long Beach, CA, which was a huge success both critically and commercially.
Perhaps most importantly, WWE finally began to listen to its audience and give them what they wanted. This was most evident in the case of AJ Styles, who went from being one of the best wrestlers in the world not signed by WWE to being one of WWE’s top stars in just a few short years. The same can be said for Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, and many others who have helped make WWE must-see TV again.
2016
In 2016, WWE tried to rebrand itself as a more family-friendly entertainment company. This meant saying goodbye to some of the more controversial and adult-themed elements of its product. While this may have turned some fans away, it ultimately led to WWE becoming more successful than ever before, both in terms of its television ratings and live event attendance.
Women’s Division
WWE’s Women’s Division has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. The Women’s Revolution has led to more opportunities and better storylines for the women. The Women’s Division is also getting more TV time and main event matches. However, there are still some issues that need to be addressed. Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of the Women’s Division in WWE.
2017
In 2017, WWE’s women’s division took big steps towards becoming more than just a sideshow. For the first time ever, a women’s match was featured in the main event of a WWE pay-per-view event (Hell in a Cell), and two women competed in the first-ever WWE Iron Man match.
At the same time, WWE also signed some of the biggest names in women’s wrestling to its roster, including former UFC champion Ronda Rousey and NXT standouts Ember Moon and Shayna Baszler.
With all of this positive momentum, it seems like WWE might finally be getting serious about its women’s division. Only time will tell if this is truly the case, but 2017 was definitely a step in the right direction.
2016
In 2016, the women’s division in WWE was better than ever. The “Divas Revolution” started, which led to better storylines, matches, and overall development of the women on the roster. In previous years, the women’s division had been nothing more than eye candy with very few (if any) actual wrestling contests taking place. However, in 2016, that all changed.
The first major change happened when Stephanie McMahon announced that there would be a new Women’s Championship. The title had been dormant for nearly a decade, and it was a big deal that it was being brought back. This led to a tournament to crown the inaugural champion, which was won by Charlotte Flair.
The second major change was the addition of two new women’s tag team titles. This helped to further legitimize the division and give the women more to do on television.
Finally, 2016 saw the addition of several top female talent from other companies, including Paige, Sasha Banks, and Bayley. This helped to raise the level of competition and resulted in some truly great matches throughout the year.
Tag Team Division
WWE has been on fire as of late. The tag team division has been one of the most entertaining things on WWE programming in recent memory. The problem is that WWE has not been able to capitalise on this.
2017
In 2017, WWE has become more open to outside competition and brands, working with New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH), and Progress Wrestling. This has resulted in a fresh crop of wrestlers coming into WWE with a different style that has given rise to new, more exciting matches. The brand extension has also been a breath of fresh air, as it has created two separate rosters with different styles and personalities. Overall, 2017 has been a great year for WWE and its fans.
2016
In 2016, the Tag Team division in WWE was better than it had been in a long time, thanks to the New Day, who were amazing every single week, and two very good tag teams in Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and the Vaudevillains. There were also a few other tag teams that were solid, but not great.
NXT
In the past year or so, WWE has been putting out some of the best wrestling it has in years. There’s a lot of factors that go into this including the rise of NXT.
2017
In 2017, WWE’s product has become much better than it was in 2016. This is thanks to a number of factors, including the roster shakeup, the Cruiserweight Classic tournament, and improved writing.
The roster shakeup saw a number of top stars from Raw and SmackDown move to the other brand, which freshened up the shows and gave them a new feel. The Cruiserweight Classic tournament was also a breath of fresh air, and its success has led to the creation of the cruiserweight division on Raw. Finally, the writing has been much improved in 2017, with better storylines and more interesting characters.
All in all, WWE’s product is in a much better place now than it was this time last year. Here’s hoping that 2018 is even better!
2016
In 2016, WWE NXT began to be seen as a brand in its own right, rather than just a WWE developmental territory. This was largely due to the success of roster stars such as Samoa Joe, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bayley and AJ Styles. All four of these superstars would go on to have successful runs on the WWE main roster, with AJ Styles even winning the WWE Championship within his first year on the main roster. The success of these superstars helped to put NXT on the map as a brand that could stand alongside WWE’s other flagship brands, RAW and SmackDown Live.
Since then, NXT has continued to produce wrestlers who have gone on to find success on the main roster, such as Bobby Roode, Asuka and Charlotte Flair. It has also become home to some of WWE’s most popular tag teams, such as The Undisputed Era and Moustache Mountain. In recent years, NXT has begun to feel more like its own independent promotion, with its own unique identity and feel. This is thanks in large part to its move to the USA Network in 2019, which gave it a regular timeslot on live television and helped it to build a larger fanbase.
With its growing popularity and reputation for producing high-quality wrestling matches, it seems that NXT is here to stay as one of WWE’s top brands.
