Jason Payments was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on September 1, 1997. He grew up playing hockey and dreamed of one day playing in the NHL. His parents encouraged his love for the game and he played on many different teams growing up.

In 2015, Jason was drafted by the Seattle Metropolitans in the fifth round of the USHL Draft. He played one season with the Metropolitans, scoring four goals and adding eight assists in 56 games. The following season, he was traded to the Tri-City Americans. In 2017-18, his final season of Junior hockey Jason had 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 58 games.

Jason began his professional career in 2018-19 with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, scoring nine goals and adding 13 assists for 22 points in 59 games.

The following season, he signed an AHL contract with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers but was placed on waivers at the end of training camp He began the season with Sound Tigers’ ECHL affiliate, the Worcester Railers HC, where he scored eight goals and added 19 assists for 27 points in 51 games before being recalled to Bridgeport on February 25, 2020. In 12 games with Bridgeport that season, Jason had one goal and two assists for three points.
