The Rivalries

The Marist basketball team is full of rivals, but the biggest one is undoubtedly between senior guard Khallid Hart and junior guard David Knudsen. The two have been battling it out for the starting spot since they were freshman, and there’s no love lost between them.

Today, the Marist basketball roster is made up of some of the most talented players in the country. Here is a closer look at some of the members of the team.

The Traditions

The Marist basketball team is one of the most tradition-rich programs in all of college basketball. From their iconic uniforms to their storied rivalry with Manhattan, the Red Foxes have a rich history that extends well beyond the court. Here are just a few of the team’s most iconic traditions.

One of the most unique aspects of Marist basketball is their uniform design. The team has worn red and white since their inception in 1929, but it wasn’t until 1949 that they began sporting their now- signature piping down the sides of their jerseys. This piping is said to represent the Hudson River, which runs through Marist’s home town of Poughkeepsie.

Another defining feature of Marist basketball is their rivalry with Manhattan College. The two teams first met on the court in 1929, and they have been playing each other ever since. The series is currently tied at 55 wins apiece, making it one of the most evenly matched rivalries in all of college basketball.

Finally, one tradition that is sure to get fans on their feet is the team’s post-game celebration. After every home win, the Red Foxes circle around their student section and jump up and down in unison, much to the delight of the screaming fans. It’s a tradition that dates back to head coach Matt Brady’s tenure in the early 2000s, and it’s one that shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
