What is Mass Legion Baseball?

Massachusetts American Legion Baseball is widely considered to be some of the best amateur baseball in the country. Legion Baseball is open to all players age 17-19 who have not played professional baseball

The Mass. Legion baseball season runs from late May/early June through early August. During the regular season teams play approximately 30 games before embarking on a single-elimination playoff tournament. The top two teams from each of the four Mass. Legion districts advance to the State Tournament which culminates with the Mass. Legion World Series

Massachusetts has a rich tradition of producing Major League Baseball talent, and manyFormer Mass. Legion stars have gone on to have successful professional careers, including Alex Rodriguez Edgar Martinez Jeff Bagwell and Craig Breslow.

Since its inception in 1925, Mass Legion Baseball has been widely recognized as one of the top Amateur Baseball programs in the country. From its humble beginnings as a six-team league, Mass Legion Baseball has grown to include over 200 teams across the state. Each year, these teams compete for the opportunity to represent Massachusetts in the American Legion World Series which is held annually in Fargo, North Dakota

In its 95-year history, Mass Legion Baseball has produced numerous Major League ballplayers, including several Hall of Famers Among the most notable Mass Legion alumni are Carlton Fisk Wade Boggs Fred Lynn and Jim Rice In recent years numerous current and former major leaguers have returned to Massachusetts to play for their local Mass Legion team during the summer months.

The Massachusetts American Legion baseball program is one of, if not the, strongest in the country. The Bay State is sending a whopping 10 teams to this year’s regional tournament by far the most of any state.

Massachusetts has had a representative in the World Series in five of the last seven years, and won it all in 2016. This year’s group has a chance to keep that streak alive.
