The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame

The Minnesota amateur baseball Hall of Fame is dedicated to preserving the history of Amateur Baseball in the state of Minnesota.

Introduction

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame was founded in 1996 to honor Minnesota’s rich amateur baseball history The Hall of Fame is located in Jordan, Minnesota, and is open to the public year-round.

History

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame was created in 1975 to honor those who have made significant contributions to amateur baseball in the state of Minnesota.

The Hall of Fame is located at the MN Baseball Museum in St. Cloud, MN and is open to the public year-round. Admission is free.

The museum houses a large collection of artifacts and memorabilia relating to the history of amateur baseball in Minnesota, as well as the Hall of Fame itself.

Inductees

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame was established in 1971 to honor those who have made significant contributions to amateur baseball in the state of Minnesota.

Some of the inductees include:
--Pee Wee Reese A former Major League Baseball player who spent most of his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1984.
-Bobby Doerr: A former Major League Baseball second baseman who played his entire 14-year career for the Boston Red Sox He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1986.
--Stan Musial A former Major League baseball player who spent his entire 22-year career with the St. Louis Cardinals He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969.

Selection Process

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame was created in cooperation with the Minnesota State Historical Society in order to recognize and honor those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to amateur baseball in Minnesota.

Nominees must be twenty-one years of age or older and must have been active as a player, coach, manager, umpire, or administrator for a minimum of fifteen years. Each year, a screening committee composed of members of the Minnesota Baseball Association past inductees, and representatives of the media select a slate of finalists to be considered by the Hall of Fame voting committee.

To be eligible for selection, an individual must have made significant contributions to amateur baseball in Minnesota above and beyond the requirements of his or her position. All candidates are judged on their playing ability, sportsmanship, character, executive/coaching/managing ability, contribution to baseball in their community/state/region/nation, and contribution to society in general.

Criteria for Selection

In order to be eligible for selection to the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame an individual must have been a player, manager, umpire or coach in Minnesota amateur baseball for a minimum of twenty (20) years. He must also be retired from active participation for at least five (5) years.

Candidates must have made significant contributions to the game of Minnesota amateur baseball and must be held in high esteem by his peers. The final decision on selection to the Hall of Fame will be made by the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame Selection Committee.

Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is the policy-making body of the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame The Board consists of the Officers of the Hall of Fame and six (6) Directors.

The primary responsibility of the Board is to see that the affairs of the Hall of Fame are conducted in accordance with its Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and policies adopted by the Board. Further, it is responsible to select new members to be inducted into the Hall each year.

Events

The Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame is located in Jordan, Minnesota. The Hall of Fame was established in 1954 to honor those individuals who have made significant contributions to amateur baseball in the state of Minnesota. The Hall of Fame is open to the public from May through September. Admission is free and tours are available upon request.

The Hall of Fame hosts several events throughout the year, including an induction ceremony, a golf tournament, and a banquet. The induction ceremony is held each year in August and honors those individuals who have been elected to the Hall of Fame The golf tournament is held each year in June and is open to the public. The banquet is held each year in November and honors the inductees.
