What does this schedule tell us about the Lobos’ season? They will definitely have their work cut out for them, playing some of the best teams in the country early on in the season. However, if they can manage to get through this tough stretch and pick up some key wins, they will be in good position to make a run at the NCAA tournament come March Madness time.

The Lobos’ Non-Conference Schedule

The Lobos have a lot to prove this season after a disappointing 12-17 (5-13 Mountain West) campaign in 2017-18. They’ll have their chance early on, as their non-Conference Schedule is one of the more challenging in recent memory. Here’s a game-by-game breakdown of what to expect.

11/6 vs. Eastern Washington – The Lobos open the season at home against the Eagles, who finished last season 20-16 (12-6 Big Sky). This should be a win for the Lobos, but it won’t be easy.

11/9 vs. Illinois State – The Redbirds come to Albuquerque after a 14-17 (5-13 Missouri Valley) season in 2017-18. This is another winnable game for the Lobos, but they can’t take their opponent lightly.

11/12 vs. USC – The Men of Troy come to Albuquerque for what will likely be the toughest test of the non-conference schedule USC went 21-12 (11-7 Pac 12) last season and made it all the way to the NCAA Tournament Round of 32. The Lobos will have their hands full in this one.

11/16 vs. New Mexico State – The Aggies come to Albuquerque after a 28-6 (15-1 Western Athletic) campaign in 2017-18 that saw them win the WAC regular season and tournament titles and make it to the NCAA tournament Round of 64. This is always one of the most hotly contested games of the year, regardless of records or conference affiliation, so expect a battle in this one.

11/24 vs. Stony Brook – The Seawolves come to Albuquerque after a 13-19 (5-13 America East) season in 2017=18. This should be another win for the Lobos, but they can’t afford to take their opponent lightly.

12/1 vs UTEP – The Miners come to Albuquerque for the first leg of the Battle of I=10 rivalry series after an 8=22 (2=16 Conference USA) campaign in 2017=18. This is always a tough game, regardless of records or conference affiliation, so expect a battle in this one as well.

12/5 at Davidson – The Wildcats come to Albuquerque after an 18=9 (9=7 Atlantic 10) season in 2017=18 that saw them make it to the NIT Round of 32. This will be a tough test for the Lobos on the road, but they’ll be up for it.

12/15 vs UNLV – The Rebels come to Albuquerque after a 20=13 (10 = 8 Mountain West) season that saw them make it all the way to the NCAA tournament Round of 32 . UNLV will be one of the tougher tests on the Lobos’ non=conference schedule , but they’re more than capable of coming out with a win .
