The Regular Show – Basketball God
The Regular Show is an American animated television series created by J. G. Quintel. The series ran on Cartoon Network from September 6, 2010, to January 16, 2017, lasting for seven seasons and261 episodes. The series is about two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both employed as groundskeepers at a local park. Quintel based the Regular Show pilot on his college experiences working with his friends as he tried to make a career in animation. Many of the characters and situations are inspired by Quintel’s Real Life and childhood imagination.
One of the more popular episodes is “Basketball God”, which aired on March 7, 2011. In this episode, Mordecai and Rigby want to play a game of HORSE but are having trouble making baskets. They find out that their boss Benson has a basketball hoop in his office, but when they ask to use it, Benson says no. They then try to sneak in and use the hoop while Benson is out of the office, but they are caught by Pops, who tells them that they need to ask nicely if they want to use the hoop.
Mordecai and Rigby finally get permission to use the hoop, but they end up breaking it. Benson gets mad at them and makes them pay for the hoop by working extra hours. While they are working, Mordecai and Rigby find a secret room that has a basketball hoop in it. They start playing HORSE again and make an amazing shot that goes in from Half Court They become obsessed with making this shot again and start playing all the time. They neglect their work and start losing sleep, which makes Benson even more mad at them.
Benson finally catches them playing again and tells them that they have to stop because they are not getting their work done. Mordecai and Rigby don’t want to stop because they think they can make the shot again, but Benson tells them that if they don’t stop playing basketball he’s going to fire them. Mordecai and Rigby then realize that their shots are never going to be as good as the one they made before because it was just luck; if they keep playing, they’ll never get their work done and will get fired for sure.

The Regular Show – The humor
The Regular Show is an American animated sitcom created by J. G. Quintel for Cartoon Network. The series follows two friends, a blue jay named Mordecai and a raccoon named Rigby—both of whom are employed as groundskeepers at a local park. The humor in Regular Show is derived from its juxtaposition of mundane, everyday tasks with bizarre situations and characters.
One of the recurring themes in the show is the 62-year-old man Benson’s anger management issues. Despite his short temper, he is shown to be a caring boss who looks out for Mordecai and Rigby. Another running gag involves the duo attempting to avoid work, usually by playing Video games or watching television instead. This often results in them getting into trouble, such as being chased by monsters or getting lost in space.
The Regular Show features several pop culture references and parodies; Quintel has stated that he uses these references to make the show more relatable to its target audience. For example, in one episode Mordecai and Rigby are transported into the world of Street Fighter II, while in another they visit a planet ruled by talking coffee mugs. These references help to create a sense of nostalgia for the show’s viewers, who grew up during the 1980s and 1990s when many of these pop culture items were popular.

One of my favorite things about The Regular Show is the voice acting. Every character is unique and the voice actors all fit their roles perfectly. The show is also full of pop culture references, which are often delivered by the voice actors in clever ways.
The Regular Show has an amazing cast of voice actors that really bring the characters to life. Some of my favorites include:
• John Cygan as Mordecai – Mordecai is the main character of The Regular Show and he’s voiced by John Cygan. Cygan does an amazing job at giving Mordecai a laid back yet lovable personality. He’s also great at delivery some of the show’s funniest lines.
• JG Quintel as Rigby – Rigby is Mordecai’s best friend and he’s voiced by JG Quintel, who is also the creator of The Regular Show. Quintel does a great job at making Rigby sound like an immature 23-year-old, which is fitting for his character. He’s also good at delivering some of the show’s more surreal jokes.
• Steven Blum as Skips – Skips is a wise yeti who works with Mordecai and Rigby and he’s voiced by Steven Blum. Blum does an excellent job at making Skips sound like he knows everything yet still retains a warm personality. He’s also good at delivering some of the show’s more emotional moments.
The Regular Show – The music
The Regular Show has some fantastic music. Often it is utilized in clever ways, or to create an emotional connection with the viewer. For example, in the episode “Basketball God”, Rigby is trying to impress a girl by playing basketball However, he is terrible at it. As he’s about to give up, we hear a montage of him practicing set to “Crazy Train” by Ozzy Osbourne. The harder he falls, the more we want him to succeed. And when he finally does make the winning shot, we can’t help but feel triumphant alongside him.
