Tygart Kansas Baseball is a minor League Baseball team that plays in the Northwest League. The team began play in 1995 as an expansion team. They are based in Milwaukie, Oregon, and play their home games at Milwaukie Park. The team’s name is a reference to the city of Tygart, Arkansas, which is located near Milwaukie. The Tygart Arkansas baseball team has never won a Northwest League Championship In 2002, the team had the Worst Record in the league and finished last in the standings. In 2007, the team finished with the second worst record in the league and again finished last in the standings. The team’s best season came in 2009 when they finished with a record of 64-76 and third place in the standings.
The Early Days of Tygart Baseball
Tygart Arkansas baseball first began in the late 1800s, with the first organized team being formed in 1887. The game quickly gained popularity in the small town, with teams being formed by local businesses and organizations. Tygart became known as a hotbed for baseball, and shortly after the turn of the century, the first professional team was formed. The Tygart Grays were charter members of the Kansas State League, and played from 1902-1903. Unfortunately, the league only lasted one season and the Grays were forced to disband.
Baseball remained popular in Tygart throughout the early 1900s, but it wasn’t until 1930 that another professional team was formed. The Tygart Senators were members of the Dixie League, and played for two seasons before folding. Once again, baseball in Tygart took a hiatus until 1957 when a new semi-pro team called the Tygart Nine was formed. The Nine played for several years before disbanding in 1962.
In 1963, a group of local businessmen decided to bring professional baseball back to Tygart and founded the Tygart Valley Baseball Association. The Association fielded a team called the Tygarts that played in the Appalachian League from 1963-1964. Due to financial difficulties, however, the team was forced to fold after just two seasons.

It would be nearly two decades before baseball would return to Tygart once again. In 1990, a group of local citizens founded the Ozark Mountain Dodgers youth baseball League. The league is still active today and provides an opportunity for kids aged 7-15 to enjoy America’s pastime in their hometown.
The Tygart Nine: A Baseball Dynasty
The Tygart Nine was a dynasty in Arkansas Baseball winning nine State Championships in a row from 1955 to 1963. The team was based in the small town of Tygart, population just over 2,000. The players were all local boys who had grown up playing together on sandlots and farms. They knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses and played as a team. They were coached by Bill Dickey, a former Major League catcher with the New York Yankees
The Tygart Nine won their first state championship in 1955, defeating the Little Rock Cardinals 9-1 in the final game They went on to win eight more titles over the next eight years, usually winning by wide margins. In 1963, they finally lost in the state championship game, but by then they had cemented their place in Arkansas baseball history

The league quickly gained popularity and soon became one of the most competitive amateur leagues in the state. In its first year, the league had six teams competing for the title.
Since then, the league has grown even larger, and now includes eight teams from around the area. The league is divided into two divisions, with each team playing each other team twice during the regular season
The top four teams from each division advance to the playoffs, which are held every year in August. The winner of the playoffs is crowned the Tygart Valley Baseball League champion.
