The American League baseball standings are the positions of the American League teams in the league.
American League East
The American League East is a division of Major League Baseball’s American League. The division consists of five teams: the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Tampa Bay Rays, and Toronto Blue Jays. All five teams are based in the Eastern Time Zone. The divisional winners of the American League East and West, as well as the two wild card teams, qualify for the American League playoffs.
Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are in first place in the American League East with a record of 108-52. The Sox have clinched the division and are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team based in the Bronx, New York City. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. They are one of two major league clubs based in New York City, the other being the National League’s (NL) New York Mets. The Yankees began play in the 1901 season as the Baltimore Orioles (no relation to the present-day Baltimore Orioles). In 1903, Frank Farrell and Bill Devery purchased the franchise after it ceased operations and moved it to New York City, renaming the club the New York Highlanders. The Highlanders were officially renamed the Yankees in 1913.
Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are a professional baseball team based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The Rays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member of the American League (AL) East division. Since its inception, the team’s home venue has been Tropicana Field.
The Rays began play as an expansion team in the 1998 Major League Baseball season. The team played its first game on March 31, 1998, against the Detroit Tigers at Tropicana Field, then known as the ThunderDome. The franchise finished last in the AL East in its first season, with a record of 65–97 (.401). In its first 20 seasons of existence, the Rays put together nine winning seasons (not counting a 2004 campaign that was cut short by a players’ strike), including three within a four-year span (1998–2001). However, since 2008, the Rays have played mostly .500 or sub-.500 ball.
Toronto Blue Jays
The Toronto Blue Jays are a Canadian professional baseball team based in Toronto, Ontario. The Blue Jays compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) East division. The team plays its home games at the Rogers Centre.

Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox sit atop the AL Central standings as of June 1st with a record of 34-20. They are 1.5 games up on the Cleveland Indians, who they will face in a four-game series starting on June 4th. The White Sox have been one of the best teams in baseball this season, thanks in large part to their stellar pitching staff. They boast a team ERA of 3.22, which is second best in the majors. They also have an offense that is more than capable of putting up runs, as they are averaging 5.1 runs per game. If the White Sox can keep up this level of play, they should have no problem winning the AL Central crown.
Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians are a professional baseball team based in Cleveland, Ohio. The Indians compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central division. Since 1994, they have played their home games at Progressive Field. The team’s spring training facility is at Goodyear Ballpark in Goodyear, Arizona. Minnesota Twins
The American League Central is a division of Major League Baseball’s American League. The Central comprises five teams located in the Midwestern United States: the Chicago White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, the Detroit Tigers, the Kansas City Royals, and the Minnesota Twins. Although the Twins have moved several times since 1901 (starting in Washington, D.C.), they have always been in either the AL Central or its forerunner, the AL West (which Minnesota was a founding member of in 1969).
Since 1994, theWinner of each half game earns a playoff berth. In 1998, MLB realigned divisions and added a wild card berth to each league. As a result of realignment, each league now has three divisions and each division winner earns a playoff berth. The two non-division winners with the best record from each league also earn playoff berths by way of the wild card berths.
The most recent change occurred before the 2013 season when MLB expanded from 30 to 40 active rosters on Opening Day and disallowed any team option years on player contracts. These rules changes led to increased payrolls around baseball and put all teams on essentially equal footing regarding their ability to acquire players via trade or free agency leading up to Opening Day.
American League West
The Seattle Mariners are in first place with a record of 30-20. The Houston Astros are in second place with a record of 28-22. The Texas Rangers are in third place with a record of 27-23. The team joined the AL as an expansion team in 1977. Since July 1999, the Mariners’ home ballpark has been T-Mobile Park, located south of downtown Seattle in the SoDo neighborhood.

Their mascot is the Mariner Moose. Through the 2016 season, the franchise has finished with a losing record in 27 of 40 seasons.[8] The Mariners were created as a result of a lawsuit brought by the city of Seattle against the American League for breaching a 1995 promise to grant expansion franchises to cities that had built new ballpark facilities for their teams.
